A very interesting problem, and it's with the Download section only it would seem -- making it so much harder to identify. That code is so convoluted... the programmer died about 10 years ago unfortunately and no one has stepped up to maintain it.
I have a vague idea of the problem, but nothing worked so far. I've added to my list.
This has been fixed and , please let me know if you continue to see the problem. I had to completely rewrite the thumbnail portion of his code. Poor guy died from cancer a long time ago, he was receiving chemo while writing this mod for vBulletin over 10 years ago.
The scary part is, I still don't understand why it broke. But, in the interest of just making it work, I rewrote the code using more modern methods and it seems to work in my testing.
Bummer about the old code, but sometimes it's impossible to figure out someone else's old code and you just have to write it yourself from scratch. I find that sometimes it's impossible to figure out my own old code, and I have to rewrite it from scratch anyway.

Yep, working here too, this just recently broke. Hasn't been broken maybe more than 2 weeks, I know I had clicked on stuff before that. Regardless, works great!
It should be less than that, only since I migrated the servers which I believe was Monday or something. Lost track of time, but just a day or so before you reported the issue perhaps.
Turns out, I now have another very serious and no doubt related issue with images. It seems there is an issue with the newer version of ImageMagick we are running, and it's causing images to not convert correctly. Most members these days place their images inline (or the tool does it for them), but I noticed earlier there was an occasional error message in the logs... and hours after digging into it, I am now pretty sure it is something to do with this.
And it makes sense, because the mystery problem with the Download section thumbnails would also be covered in this, since those images call on this conversion library.
Now, just to find a solution without breaking the whole site... tomorrow perhaps.
I just noted that when you paste multiple pictures directly from cache into a new post, the earlier ones will be overridden (imageid=1). Which is a pain if you write a post with 4 annotated charts and are left with only the last one by the end
I attached *three* random screenshots to this post here using windows standard Win+Shift+S key combo.
Maybe this helps, assuming that the paste operations are logged somewhere.
