I've spend days trying to find what the problem was, wrote several emails to support but didn't receive a viable solution. You guys have great support(I always got a reply very fast) but the problem wasn't solved.
The main issue was when I tried to load a new chart and it failed, I had to restart NT in order to load it correctly. This was very annoying and dangerous, specially if you're dealing with $.
Other crashes resulted from interrupted broker/internet connection, clicking twice to reload the chart.
Another annoying bug was the strategy optmizer...a message would say "running strategy" but the backtest button was clickable and nothing happened, the only solution was... you guessed! Restart NT...
I honestly respect your work but my experience with NT was very bad.
Big Mike - "a built in function to send logs to support along with a description of the problem, directly in the app". That is a lot to ask of NinjaTrader. I think simplifying sending logs would be a great feature but there are so many other areas to improve upon. Zipping and sending the log folder is after all a 2 minute exercise.
I use Reuters in addition to NinjaTrader. Reuters has a support tool than enables sending files to support but does not include a description of the problem. Keep in mind Reuters starts at $350 a month and goes to upwards of $1800/mo not including exchange fees.
I am not aware of any application that has a function to send logs with a description of the problem. Even more limited sending of logs is only available in a handful of apps and these are from the likes of Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft.
There is an "Email Support" in NT8 which will send an email to Ninja support with the log and trace files (by default), and you can add additional information/comments and additional files.
So, for @LucentTrader, it's not taking 2 minutes anymore .
@LucentTrader,
I'm late to this conversation, but you are spot on with your comments. I absolutely agree that Ninja is amazing and the Ninja bashing here, over the years, has left me shaking my head more than once. Well said.
Installed version 8.0.2.0 a few days ago. No new issues and a few minor issues I was experiencing are resolved. All my custom indicators work. Charting and strategies all work.
Nothing wrong with that. I'm still on NT7 as well because I simply cannot import NT7 indicators into 8 unless the vendor specifically spent time to upgrade the indicators for use in NT8. I don't want to fix anything if it ain't broken.
You are absolutely right. I agree with you. But I am thinking that Ninja's people (who are surely awared of this BIG problem) should have solved this problem and offered a solution that would FUNCTIONALLY INTEGRATE ALL the existing/operating NT7 indicators (both the "standard ones" AND 3rd parties' indicators or any other NT7 working now indicator) into a totally "functioning and operational SHELL" containing all these NT7's indicators and permitting an easy and automatic importation ofALL these NT7 indicators AND existing NT7 strategies into the NT8 s/w without the need of anything else from the trader's side, who already FULLY PAID for ALL these NT7 indicators (both to Ninja and probably to other vendors).
Otherwise, I think, that most of the Ninja's traders worldwide will try to avoid this trouble to reinstall (from scratch) all their operating NT7's indicators (into the NT8), and, stay where they are now. On the other hand, some vendors' indicators will probably be reluctant to issue NT8 versions for their already sold indicators, and, probably, some of them, will be asking (or blackmailing) Ninja's traders extra money in order to do this job. Ninja people MUST solve this problem immediately and must aware about their intentions about this problem asap. I cannot imagine Ninja's traders to be facing the same problem every time Ninja issues their next platform version, but so far this is the situation !! For example what will happen if after few years Ninja will issue their next version (e.g. NT9 , etc) ?? Are we going to change again our indicators and work again from the "scratch"??? .
But the biggest problem is that Ninja will cancel NT7 platform after few years and NT7 will be DEAD !! This is not right for all of us who TRUSTED Ninja. Because, when this will happen, Ninja will force all (todays their NT7 clients to switch to NT8, otherwise they will loose their money meaning all their initial invested capital for the purchase of their NT7 indicators. All this money will be LOST !! Everybody will be pushedthen to switch to NT8 !! So, this problem MUST be solved from Ninja people (and I know they are capable to offer a good technical solution). Thanks.
OMG George no longer offering support for NT7 in a few years??!? Horrible as I paid for a multi-broker licence a year ago. I do know a Russian programmer that can help me convert NT7 indicators to NT8 but why do I have to spend more money? At one point I read somewhere they said NT7 indicators would work in NT8 but not strategies. I installed NT8 to try it out and unfortunately could not import any third party indicators.
I cannot believe Ninja could not have come up with something for this issue. This is ridiculous. The retail trader gets screwed again.
