That's pretty sad, from multiple perspectives, but I suppose with so many members there's gonna be more than a few bad apples out there.
Mike, you've built a friendly, well-respected, world-class destination here for not only traders, but high caliber people in general. Sorry you have to put up with stuff like this... but hey, like water off a duck's back right?
Keep up the great work man, I hope you have an awesome weekend.
For several minutes, links were missing from posts while a database table was being rebuilt. I thought I could do it before anyone noticed but apparently not. Done now
Appreciated. It is human nature that people tend to complain far more than they praise. That is why you see more negative than positive reviews in general with all things Internet.
But I do have to admit, it does wear on you after a while. Sometimes I am just so tired of dealing with people threatening me, the bullshit games and lies that vendors play, the endless legal threats from vendors, even customers that get mad at me because we charge tax on their membership --- and I spend so much time trying to just explain to them that tax is a legal requirement and not controlled by us... It's just mentally exhausting to deal with these things every single day.
I mean, my god - on one hand we have people claiming I am scamming the government by classifying our memberships as charitable donations (we do not), and on the other hand people complaining that we charge too much tax!!!!!
I try to keep the attitude of "if people are asking, that means you haven't done your job explaining". In other words, my fault not theirs for not properly conveying the information.
But the issue I run into all the time is that, quite simply, people do not read. I cannot tell you how many times I get messages "I can't post". I ask them "what is the error message?" (knowing already). Eventually after back and forth I ask them to read the screenshot to me. Then some of them still continue to insist, "how am I supposed to post when it says I can't post in the review section unless I have ten posts in other sections?" and they get all upset.
I'm like, uh, if you READ it says you can literally post in any other section, then when you have ten posts, you can do a review.
But people don't get it. We have GREAT reasons of protecting our community behind the decision to mandate ten posts prior to reviews. But people get so mad! Arguing with me. Telling me how elitist I am by FORCING people to pay me $100 for membership just to post, which is of course not true. People insisting the rule is just to get people to pay me.
Then there are the vendors, who have neverending tricks and lies upon lies. Spreading all kinds of negative info about me personally and the site, making stuff up to no end, just to try and explain away negative reviews about them.
Of late, I've spent countless time with a specific vendor that keeps telling me he wants to reply to posts in his own vendor review thread. I told him, no problem, you are not only welcome to do so but we encourage your participation. One simple condition: your reply needs to answer the question, but not be a marketing pitch. Nothing more... back and forth ten emails later (no kidding) and he is still arguing with me about how can he possibly post, if he has to follow the ten post requirement rule.... OMFG1!!
just can't deal with it sometimes. this is just the emails from this morning!!
I am glad that you have been able to put up with all this shit, although I'm also sorry that you had to deal with it in the first place.... But if you had just said, "Screw this, I can do something else," then we wouldn't have had this intensely great forum, which I for one would regret.
This may not be much consolation, but the forum is what it is because of the policies that you insist on, and I'm sure that most of the members here are happy with what it has become.
I do hope you get less nonsense like this in the future, anyway.
Bob.

Yeah. Just a bit of frustration this morning. I have had a bad few nights of no sleep, not helping. Have a physical therapist coming three times a week now for 90 minutes, which is helping with the pain but also making me so sore I can't move. Anyway. Life. I long for the day that I can just be awake without having a pain level above 7.
A bug in the URL expansion feature caused linked URL's that pointed to a specific POST to not show the content of that post, but instead the content of post #1 in the thread.
It has been corrected. The correct function is so that if you link a thread and point to the post's permalink, the result will show you the content preview of that individual post. If you link to only a page number or the thread itself w/o a permalink postid, it will show the text from post 1 of the thread.
Please report any problems. The site will be slower as I force rebuild a few million URL's in posts!

You guys know how hard I've been working on site improvements in the last few months. Today, I saw some of the very hard work pay off with Google. They are now indexing 200k additional URL's that were previously not indexed for various reasons. I've solved those issues and we should see a relative percentage increase in Google traffic, now that we are indexing 50% more pages.
