Hi there...interesting thread. Would love to follow along and understand your thoughts on nifty.
Could you be so kind and give some background on Nifty markets/futures in general:
a) what is lot size
b) can this be held overnight
c) what is the point size
d) what is daily avg volume for nifty
e) since nifty is futures am guessing most are using direct market access platforms
f) who moves prices. I see your have used the term spike trading. Are you referring to hfts or algos...and if so is there a way to detect presence of algos in the nifty market. Since this is a derivates market does it track or corelate to any market internals or any other index futures.
Nifty is traded on National Stock Exchange (India).
Its Lot Size is 75.
One point move is equal to 75. But the tick size is 0.05.
Daily average volume on current month futures is around 3-3.5 million shares.
You can get access to Nifty futures through a registered brokers.
If you have access to level 2 data, which is provided by some data providers you can track algos ( I personally do not track it).
FII (Foreign Institutional Investors) are major players followed by DII (Domestic Institutional Investors).
Another major index traded is Banknifty, which has significant effect on Nifty movement.
But sadly as a foreign retail investors we cant trade futures.Geojit was trying to offer stock trading for foreigners but there is still too hard to do it.So as a result - India is still closed for us ...
