The improvements are vast. Completely redone, rewritten and very different from NT7. And much better, just not quite yet there. NT says over 500 improvements. One of the best is true multi-threading, IMHO. Yesterday I was able to, with my feeble coding skills, take the standard new RiskReward drawing tool and make some customization's, very minor, but what I wanted none the less. Still toying with it. Drawing tools in NT7 required a boat load of skill sets in C# to create, IMHO.

I find the health of NinjaTrader 7 needs to be proactively maintain. Once a small somewhat odd behavior pops up it's time to do the following like clock work.
Disconnect from all data
Repair DB: Tools/Optoins/Data
Close NT7
Delete the _Workspaces.xml file: Documents/NinjaTrader 7/workspaces
Launch NT7
Reopen any desired workspaces
Go nuts.....lol
Only issue here is IMHO is being able to recognize tiny odd behavior soon enough before it snowballs. Takes some level of experience working with the platform.

Once the DB and _Workspaces.xml become in need of correcting NT support will have a, extremely hard if not absolutely impossible time, replicating an error or sequence of them due to the multitude of variables in play. The age of individual workspaces is also a factor in this. Tiny, nearly impossible to reproduce errors, (data disconnect, internet goes out, power failure, power surge, cosmic ray etc) can creep in to all the varied aspects and combinations of charts, standard indicators, custom indicators, data feeds, the data base and on and on.... Re-creating workspaces when this happens, or better yet, once made saving a copy of them in a safe unrelated place is a very good way to save time in this regard.

Ninjatrader support HAS been able to duplicate many of the bugs I reported, and taken steps to correct them.
If you are relying on Ninjatrader to make a living as opposed to game play, it might be worth your while to find a consultant who can duplicate and test your total setup, and then fix the custom indicators that are the most likely cause of your problems.
Most of the housekeeping advice recently posted in this thread is useless.
NT8 is light years ahead of NT7 but the path to reliable operation has at times been perplexing, I am getting really close now.
Two workspaces like this ran simultaneously all day today without any errors in the log or output window. The blue plot in panel 3 of the right hand chart gets data from 18 other indicators, each of which generates signals from one other symbol. These charts never lag prices, and CPU usage generally does not exceed 5%.

I understand how this might be the case for you, but not for me because I don't do any sort of manual trading; it's 100% automated. Just to give you an idea on how bad NT8 is, you can't even call Draw() methods (Draw dot, line, rectangle, fibonacci etc) from within a strategy.
This happens for me on every PC I have tried and the NT staff have replicated these bugs and are doing their best to resolve them (fingers crossed for b11).
I agree 100% that NT8 is a truly fantastic platform, but there are still many issues remaining which are unrelated to any custom code and as such require ongoing and active bug reporting to resolve.
