"... to provide enough t i m e to allow NT7 traders to migrate over NT8 ".
This is what Ninja wants and offers, so far. Only some T I M E !
We, the traders, want Ninja to produce and provide us the appropriate S O F T W A R E, so NT7 tarders to be able to a u t o m a t i c a l l y migrate to NT 8 everything we have in our existing NT7 (e.g. indicators, strategies, etc) without extra effort, time and money !! I dont say that is a must for us to stay "for ever" to NT7. I simply say that we need to have a safe, reliable and official (produced and suggested by Ninja itself) software which will allow us to tranfer automatically and smoothly all of our job that we produced - working hard for years - over to NT 8. Simple as that. I dont think there is somethin,g in my above statement, that somebody can not understand. If such an official software will not be produced and released by Ninja, you (and possibly many other traders) will probably continue to search, here and there, maybe for years (who knows ...) for some "software" or "solution" that maybe unoficilally suggested to you from somebody else (probably irresponsible). So this software is the problem not the time. Thanks.-
I'm sorry but your posts in this thread make me think of my son when, just this morning here, was upset over an issue he realizes now was not quite worth all the energy.
This trading gig is nothing more than a business. Businesses have headaches to deal with ALL THE TIME. I honestly don't think you are doing yourself any favors, at all, by going on and on about your troubles regarding NT7 --> NT8 transition.
I have recoded my NT7 indicators with the help of the NT8 HelpGuide, and yes, I put it off dreading it but it was really not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I am not a programmer. I'm just extremely competent in everything I do.
And you know what, so are you! You my friend are not a victim. You are a trader! You are in one of the absolute toughest businesses on planet earth! Because of this fact you can conquer anything in your path.
But it's time to start and stop complaining.
We as traders, are in a business with very low overhead, compared to brick and mortar, for example. Let's be thankful and grateful of this and raise to meet our challenges with a heart filled with hope and determination.
Take advantage of this wonderful community @Big Mike has created for us all. Help is just a post away......
quit buying third party indicators or systems from any where...all software from e-signal to you name it will retire there old software at some point and you have the same problem you have now. if you own ninja the only plus is it saves some on broker fees ,it is easy to use, and they will be around for a while.
I dont find nice/polite the way and "style" you replied to my post and me personally. I think your personal (and family) referals, abilities, etc do not have place in this forum and cannot be considered as serious. Since you are not a programmer you may not understand other people's efforts in their time consuming complex programming work, that you certainly dont know. For this reason you, obviously, yoy are not in a position to give any ... "lessons" to programmers (I am programmer more than 14 years); instead, you would be able to gain some extra knowledge about programming if you listen experienced programmers. FYI, please read what Ninja itself generally suggests (in one of their recent posts) about the issue of converting NT7 indicators ---> NT8 through ... wizard (not for complex codes written by hand - imagine ... complex NT7 strategies conversion!) :
"...
The two most useful tools for converting NT7 indicators to NT8 indicators, are the code breaking changes page, https://ninjatrader.com/support/helpG...ng_changes.htm , and the code creation wizards built into NT8. A good process to follow for converting NinjaScript files is as follows :
From the NinjaTrader Control Center -> New -> NinjaScript Editor
Right click the type of object you are importing in the NinjaScript Explorer and choose the option that creates a new version of it. For example, to import an Indicator, right click Indicator and select New Indicator
Code as much of your indicator as possible through the wizard. Don't worry about it if a field doesn't make a lot of sense, you will have an opportunity to code later and can leave any field set to its default value. Refer to the NT8 Help Guide frequently, https://ninjatrader.com/support/helpG..._reference.htm
Create any parameters and properties that did not get created through the wizard, that exist in your old NT7 code. Use wizard created parameters and properties as a template.
Create any private variables that existed in your old NT7 NinjaScript file
Copy any code from your Initialize routine in NT7 into the appropriate places in OnStateChange. As a general rule, State == State.SetDefaults covers properties you can set from right-click windows, and State == State.Configure covers any initialization and instantiation. Refer to the Help Guide if you are unsure where something should go.
Compile your code with F5. Fix your code and compile again until it compiles without errors.
Test your code's interface out. For example, all right-click menu options should appear the way you'd like. Fix your code, compile, and test again until it works correctly
Copy your OnBarUpdate method in to your indicator as is, along with any helper methods it relies on. Compile, refer to the code breaking changes page, ask questions here in the forums, and repeat until this section compiles
Finally, refer to the Help Guide to see if your other event methods have changed name, and copy this code in. Repeat the procedure you used to get OnBarUpdate compiling
Once your code compiles correctly, come up with a test scenario for your old script in NT7, and run your old script through this scenario using the Strategy Analyzer. A test scenario involves a set of known historical data and an instrument
Once you have test results, repeat your test in NT8.
As a control, run a known good NinjaScript through both your NT7 or NT8 tests to make sure your tests are valid. Good examples of known good NinjaScript are the SMA indicator and the SampleMACrossover strategy. Fix your test until these known good NinjaScript files work the same way in NT7 and NT8, then run your tests again on your NinjaScript
I hope, now, you got an idea for this issue. If not, I am sorry, I cannot help you any more, and I do not intend to come back in further discussion with you. Thank you.-
