I am quite surprised when you say that MC.net does not have a way of programmatically being able to cancel an order. I am currently having a GUI programmed in MC.net by a programmer. My orders need cancel replacing at various times so I will ask him how he is getting it done and will get back to you.
As a beginner in futures trading, I am spending time to learn the NinjaTrader system.
One of the reasons I was interested in NinjaTrader was so many resources in this forum - futures.io.
So far, my experience has not been impressive.
I tried to download some indicators at the ninjatraderecosystem.com and found the download button does not work.
I sent an email to customer support, and they replied with a message that they have no problem on their side.
And they asked to provide the details of the windows version, browser etc.
I searched the customer support forum and found there were tons of requests from many other users - cannot download.
Instead of fixing the problem, customer support attached the requested indicators in the reply emails for years.
So, here's my question to experienced fellow traders:
Is the NinjaTrader a dependable platform?
If a company cannot solve a seemingly simple problem for years, how do you trust their system?
Their service is absolutely top notch. That was the reason I chose NT. The website button issue could be any number of things outside of their control.
My primary reason for having an unused license is the incredible lack of supported FX brokers. I didn’t pay attention to to fact they are primarily a futures platform and don’t focus on FX really at all. So that was my own mistake. Occasionally I get something programmed to NT so that I can use its back testing engine. But generally it just sits there.
I have tried a few different platforms Open E Cry, ninjatrader 7, 8, tradestation, Multicharts and Multicharts.net, Metatrader 5 with AMP, eSignal broker plugins. All of them have some strengths and weaknesses. There are some newer ones like quantconnect.com and tradingview that allow broker connections as well. Some like to change brokers depending upon which platform they want to program systems on. There was a time that I would just sign up for transact for a dom and use eSignal for charting. If you can find a broker that you really like, find a platform that suits your needs with them. As a programmer, I really like the Multicharts.net and own copy of it as well.
Currently I can connect my NT8 to Oanda for FX and NT8 to Dorman for my Futures with my multi broker license and that works fine. If the data base gets too large, you might have problems but it has only crashed once. Also, I had to make sure that only one workspace was open at a time. If you have a bunch of charts and indicators on all those workspaces, it will slow the system down. As far as indicators and systems on NT8, I write my own and use Visual Studio to solve any issues. Most of my issues are things I did not catch in an indicator or system. The support at Ninjatrader is always willing to take a look as well.
I currently use AMP and Sierra Chart. Very happy with Sierra Chart - it is intimidating at first but once you start learning everything it can do and getting under the hood you'll be amazed.
As for the broker, AMP is just the cheapest out there when it comes to commissions. There's been a lot of chatter about risk of the FCM and "is your capital safe?" .. in my opinion and from that data/info I've read they are running things on the up and up.
If you're looking for an IB that would provide you top notch customer service and a lot of different platforms check out Optimus Futures. I was with them for a short period of time and Jake/Mattz over there were very helpful. In the end, the extra costs didn't out weigh the needed customer service. I'm pretty well setup now with AMP.
So after looking at a few different solution I decided to use TradingView in tandem with tradestation. I have actually spend a little time learning about some TS features and I am staring to like it more. Also I belong to a trader group and a lot of people in this group use TS some even write plug-ins for it so it does make sense to start using it.
I love TradingView. Best platform IMHO. But their api is missing some key features, which brought me to NT8. After using TradingView the NinjaTrader UI is so ugly I almost vomit daily.
