I think the more time you spend with it, the more you will like it. That is how it was with me. The learning curve at first was big (mainly because I was so used to how NT did it), but then it was truly worth it in the end.
Mike , just out of curiosity and since you wrote many times that you prefer to trade without indicators or any fancy widgets i suppose your needs are pretty basic as a trader. In fact, if i read you correctly, you just need a platform that can print bars on the screen. Anything else is just a plus. In that sense, what makes you so excited about Multichart ? Is it just because of your love/hate relation you developed with Ninjatrader that caused you to change platform ?
If you spend more time with your trading platform than with your wife or dogs, you get emotionally attached. Working with NinjaTrader can hence cause emotional disorder, so I guess that the attachment to MultiCharts is just a sign of relief.
As you can see from my threads on the forum, I do still enjoy writing the occasional indicator or strategy. Writing them is much more enjoyable in MultiCharts than in NinjaTrader. But, I do not rely on them as a means of earning a living. My discretionary trading is very "simple" compared to most people on the forum.
Still, the platform itself is important. NT would constantly lock up just on launch (constant workspace problems). NT would constantly lock up when switching charts. NT would constantly lock up when switching time frames. I had to constantly repair or reset the database. Not even mentioning any indicator or strategy backtesting specific issues.
No doubt, many people don't experience these problems. If they are happy with NT then that's great news. However, many do experience the same problems. I got tired of them and switched to a stable platform. I was spending all my time being a software tester and troubleshooter instead of trading.
But it's more than that, I believe MultiCharts is positioned to innovate new features that I may find useful, whereas NT is not. This is because MultiCharts, in my opinion, has a stable base code set and great engineering resources, whereas NT seems to spend most of its time on dealing with problems instead of innovating. MultiCharts is making advancements at a far faster rate than NinjaTrader, just look at their changelog and announcements section and compare the two companies. There is really no comparison in my opinion, I feel MultiCharts is superior, which is why I use it. Until they add a DOM though, most NinjaTrader users cannot use MultiCharts. Luckily, it is being added immediately.
Anyway, you can read "The Truth" thread about NinjaTrader if you wish. For me, I am very happy with MultiCharts and I feel I have made the best possible choice.
Symbology for DX (US Dollar Index) and TF (Russel mini) with Zen Fire on MultiCharts:
DX: "DX FM<m>00<yy>!" where there are TWO SPACES between DX and FM, then <m> is month digit code (U=Sep, Z=Dec, etc) and then 00, then <yy> is two digit year (10 is 2010), then an exclamation mark!
Thanks for this Mike, even I get confused with Zen-Fire symbols. They have sent me a document in the past for the symbol information, but that seems to have changed since then. I will ask them for another one, and update everyone once I have it.

Nice to see the feature request option. I have one I'll add as well.
FYI, browsing the MC forum and noticed part of a post yesterday by an MC rep:
"Regarding manual trading, it is planned to be implemented in the middle of November."
