VW and Daimler self-reported to the prosecuting attorney about
a large cartel between the 5 German car makers around the diesel.
This had been started in the 90ies already. More than 200 people
worked in "special work groups" to discuss how reduce producing
costs with illegal measure by circumventing the competition rules.
Stocks fell
2% for Daimler (already -11% since January)
2,5% for BMW and
3% for VW within 2 hours
This severe ban will affect all vehicules, hybrides and oldtimers too...
A whole new gas station model will be needed as well
Other countries are thinking of those restricting rules as well: France will be earlier
than GB. That will be a big competition for old an new car makers - who will be first?
More things to come for sure.
At least the discussion is started and may bring new concepts very soon.

findings
The result of a process from DUH (Deutsche Umwelthilfe) against Baden-Württemberg (state of Porsche, BMW,
Daimler) gave a clear win for the DUH.
That means diesel ban in the city center may be activated very soon. A sum of 18 days per year will be allowed
to be above the limits - measured at the the "Neckar-Tor" - the most polluted junction in Germany.
From there a total ban of Diesel is possible - for all Diesel from EURO 3 to EURO 6.
Bad news for the German car makers - they face a big battle from existing customers as well as a neglecting crowd
of new buyers.
Stuff to keep folk that write rules in work to make it harder for folk that make things to do so economically, thereby preventing economics from working as it should, but sometimes saving parts of the planet, so that other bits can be unintentionally buggered up, usually by cheating executives, scheming politicians, grantless scientists or some other crowd of scumbags or accidental do-gooder heroes.
