My elderly father was stuck by a car as he was walking to purchase his daily morning paper a couple of days ago.
While at first we thought he may pull through, it appears that the injuries sustained are too much for his old
body to deal with.
So, yesterday, my mother and my oldest brother Peter decided to remove his feeding tube and let nature
take it's course.
I think I'll take a little time off.
I'm not sure if I will drive down to Florida or not. Pete suggests that my other brother Scott
and myself remember dad the way we last saw
him and not see him in his present condition.
A difficult decision, to be sure.
It's times like these that put everything in order. The daily mundane fades to the back and everything
aligns. The only thing truly important in life, is life itself.
Take all the time off that you need. This will all be here when you decide to return. You are so right AJ, nothing in life is more important than life itself. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I just read this after skyping you. I am so sorry for you. Family is the most important thing in life. Take plenty of time to process, grieve, heal and recover. Don't trade anytime soon. I skyped you my cell number, call me anytime. My prayers for your father and for your family are with you.
Remember, we will see them again one day........

AJ, sorry about the news. As a people we've come up with some pretty wise words over the years, some of them being "Live each day like its your last". Steve Jobs said "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right."
None of us know what tomorrow brings, so why not plan to take full advantage of today?
One last thought, some cultures have huge parties when someone passes away. This is the way I want to be remembered, my friends and family not meeting together being sad or depressed, but instead being happy, cheerful, and having a good time sharing stories. Champagne can be served, you are celebrating the beautiful life of someone.
