Yes. I have posted this very point here - and sent enough "report this post" messages to @Big Mike to be reprimanded (publicly) for my efforts here . I have gained so much from this site - seeing how other people approach the market, learning about things that I had not even considered (and I am full time trader - and have been since day one on this site back in 2009). It still "affects" me to watch those who hold one view so willing (and able) to go into other threads and trash everything that doesn't fit into their construct of what is right. That has always seemed like it was not appropriate, not in the spirit of what this site stood for. At any rate, I'm good, I've received way more value here than I ever paid for - and still enjoy occasional insights from what is created here. I hope those who come after me will get the same - but I concede that it's not up to me, and I can't control any outcomes here. In fact, this post can be immediately deleted by me - and then re-posted by @Big Mike (that is exactly what occurred in my "public reprimand" post - and I'm very glad he re-posted my message because not only did I say exactly what I wanted to say, but Mike also posted clear evidence of the effort that I had made, in private, to report what I thought was inappropriate behavior.) Or this post can be deleted by the moderators and tagged as "childish". Either way, I have no recourse other than to thank the community for the value I have received and hope only the best for those who follow. One final thought, just to make this post x-rated and thus attract a much larger audience: those who post the most are not necessarily those who know the most. Good luck.
I am very happy to see the discussion on Fibs continue, I think debate is good so long as it's kept civil. When I created this thread, I was hoping we could have a good debate and keep it constructive and helpful, like 99% of posts here are.
To the people that have a problem with me personally, you must realize that I view the site as something that I work hard to protect. You can equate it to your house. When you invite people into your house, if they constantly cause trouble they will find themselves removed from the house.
Let me be clear, "trouble" does not mean disagreeing with me. Debate is fine, and encouraged, so long as it's kept civil. Trouble is when people develop some sort of vendetta where they constantly and purposely work against the community.
Negativity leads to negativity. The forum has always had a mission of being a positive place where we help each other, a distinct difference between other forums out there where everyone gets to act more or less as they wish. You may consider it lack of freedom or free speech, but at the end of the day, everyone must realize the goal of the forum is to be a positive environment. If I allowed people that are constantly negative to remain, that attracts more and more negativity.
You can see evidence in this very thread when someone posts something negative and immediately it gives license for others to do the same. It's a snowball effect, and left unchecked, what you end up with is what you can already find with other communities whose administrators don't share the same goals for their community as I do.
As the administrator, you have to trust me to do my job.
I am not a perfect person, and have never pretended to be one. I make mistakes. But it's my job to make decisions for the good of the entire community. For those that don't respect my decisions, let me remind you of the death threats I receive from some of the people that I've banned. To me, it's confirmation that banning these people was the right decision, by simply observing what they do after being banned.
For example, if I ban someone and they come back later without any threats and we have a civil conversation by email, I almost always unban them. For another example, when I ban someone and they immediately run to another forum and create a fake/duplicate account (that the admin of that site allows, because they don't care) and then willfully and purposely spread misinformation, then it is confirmation that banning that person was the right decision.
So, again, as the admin of the site I have to make the decisions, and I learned a long time ago it is simply impossible to please everyone. I would hope that everyone is adult enough to realize that, and not take every decision that they disagree with as some sort of affront to them personally.
I also need you guys to realize that I am often placed in difficult positions, trying to decide what is right for the community while also trying to act as fairly as possible. It is not an easy task, I assure you.
Some users put me in situations where the overwhelming majority of their posts are very useful to the majority of the community, but occasionally they write something that is rude and offensive and has no place here. While some would say that person should be banned, I have to try and look at the entire picture all at once -- does banning this member help the overwhelming majority of users within the community? Does not banning him set a bad precedent and bad tone?
It's not as easy as you may think. So, I would appreciate it if you guys would give me a little slack, and instead of working openly against me because you disagree with my actions, instead try to understand where I am coming from.
For those of you who own your own businesses, I am sure that you can agree -- if an employee of your business doesn't trust you and is unhappy in his job, it is best for everyone that he leave. Sometimes this may lead to a couple of other employees who agree with him to also leave. But so long as the overwhelming majority of people remain, then this is the best result for everyone.
Some people talk about that a certain group of members left the community. I am fine with this, if that group of people were unhappy enough to leave then it is better for them, and better for the rest of us who stayed.
If you are unhappy with my leadership in the forum, then at the end of the day, I would rather have you leave the community than remain here unhappy. Because if you remain, unhappy, then your tone comes across in your posts, and it creates a vicious negative cycle. See above for "snowball effect".
I really want to thank @Big Mike for the way he has handled things, at least with respect to me. I know, or at least am 99 percent sure, that he does not agree with me on fibs, or any lines on a chart for that matter (maybe VWAP, kinda). Yet there has been no attempt to silence or censure me, no pressure, nothing, and that's really all that one can ask for in the forum moderator and site owner. In return, I have really endeavored to stay civil and focused on the issue...
In the end, I am just putting something out there I see for others to take a look at. At no point am I saying they are any kind of holy grail. I flat out said earlier that I view them at most as another form of market structure. Constructive criticism is helpful. Derogatory remarks and attacks are self-defeating.
