I heard Apple's market cap is so big they could buy every listed company on the Russia stock exchange and still have enough left over to give every person in Russia an iPhone 6
Apple reached a market cap of 710 billion today. Doing the math, they will reach a 1 trillion market cap if the the share price reaches 172. Is that right?
Cell phones are traded in every year or two, and the cost is subsidized by the carrier. When people trade in their AAPLMobile, is someone going to pay them to take a new one, if they sign up for a contract of some kind? Nope. And the average age of a car is over 10 years old now, not the one/two year turnover we see in the cell phone biz.
I think AAPL could do a good job at making a car, but they are much more complex, the market is already saturated, the margins are WAY too low, and the turnover is too infrequent. As a consumer, the prospect is interesting, but for an investor, it seems a bit suicidal for a company doing so well to do something so stupid.
