Italy now declared the country in total as a RED Corona zone!
Italian Government declared yesterday not only the north of Italy as a red zone without movements but from now on for 4 weeks the total surface of Italy to be under quarantine. Means no travel, school and universities closed, many other restrictions but public transport still running.
What worries me is that people are still far too laid back, I've come to know that my country only asks to fill a form on airport and asks "Are you feeling sick?" and "Are you infected with Corona-Virus?"
Obviously people are going to answer honestly, and they are going to walk all over the land filled with crowd of people.
In shadows my government has asked pharma companies to stockpile some 26+ antibiotics, but in public no one is really doing anything. People think wearing masks and things like that are "joke", they even justify with reasoning like "we never wore that thing before, it wont make any difference". Hilarious!!!!
People are also forgetting about something, usually flue related viruses go into bit of downslide with arrival of summer but they often come back stronger after summer, so while we might be entering summer, its not necessarily end of the virus if you are not working on vaccines. So Mr. Trumphet, just summer wont beat the Corona, get your act together. China was doing more than million tests per week, in US that number is not even in thousands since the start of spread. That's huge disparity even if we consider Chinese numbers bullshit.
The virus is only dangerous to the elderly and / or those with pre-existing illnesses, so most people who don't fall into those risk categories aren't too concerned about getting it. The biggest risk, however, is that medical resources become strained.
It does not take long for a local outbreak or cluster to overwhelm hospitals. We have seen this already in China and Italy.
In Germany there are just under 1,300 confirmed cases and only 2 deaths.
In South Korea there are over 7,500 confirmed cases and 54 deaths.
In Italy there are over 9,000 confirmed cases and 463 deaths, a substantially higher death rate.
In Germany, there are 8 hospital beds per 1000 people
In South Korea, there are 12 hospital beds per 1000 people
In Italy there are only 3.2 beds per 1000 people
The United States, meanwhile, only has 2.8 hospital beds per 1000 people, and America also has a much higher prevalence of diabetes and heart disease than Germany, Korea, and Italy. In fact, Korea has one of the lowest rates of heart disease on the planet.
The point is that America is NOT well prepared for this, and if outbreaks grow, hospitals will be overwhelmed and critial care patients will, in some cases not receive the care they need. Therefore, if tests show rapid spread of coronavirus in the U.S. I think that more drastic measures will have to be taken to slow the spread. I believe that the many people still underestimate this risk.
This halt of people, money and goods circulation is effectively shaving off half of market gains in last 5 years in my country. Don't see it stopping anytime soon either.
