Matt here and I am brand new to trading... which means I haven't blown up my account yet simply because I don't have a funded account yet. I have always been intrigued by the markets and imagined myself making a boatload of cash in a relatively short amount of time, so I decided to do it the smart way, I joined this forum.
I have been paper trading for a short time with a little bit of success, a little bit of failure, and a lot of bit of questions. I have attended some so called seminars, which are mostly just ploys to get you to spend a lot of money on thier so called system, but I just couldn't spend the cash... (past performance does not equal........) so how can you have a system??
I decided to LEARN the markets... to know what is going on and why... to be able to make informed decisions... to gain knowledge. I might be old fashioned, but I still think the more you know, the better off you will be.
I am a mechanic by trade currently, just because I am good at it and make a pretty good paycheck from it. But it is an 8-6 job and I am not delighted about that. I need a break!!!!
So anyway, that's about it, It's time for me to start studying!!! Glad to be a part of the forum and thank you in advance for your knowledge. BTW, I will be happy to share my knowledge with all of you, If anyone has any automotive related questions, especially European automotive questions (my specialty) just ask, I will be happy to help!
Well after signing up in the forum 3 years ago and not making a single post. I have finally decided to get some help.
I am part of couple other forums but to be honest I don't interact much. I like this forum because it seems more personal and seems like people here are actually trying to help.
I know trading is a life of loneliness but the fact that such a forum exists is great news. I have finally made my first post here.
Hope to learn a lot. I'm going to make my 2nd post a long one asking for advice in the other section.
I've been doing this for years. Recently trading even while I have my other job as a truck driver. It was a great feeling when I made as much money trading as I did on my regular job. I've gotten remarried recently which diverted my attention somewhat and it's been a while since I've really applied myself. Now is the time for me to jump fully into it and see where I can take it.
I'm a complete newbie when it comes to trading, so I am learning tons right now from reading books, blogs and now this forum. I have worked as a scientist and an architect-aren't those fields related? So, trading seems appealing, like something to puzzle out. I'm happy to find this forum and people sharing what works and doesn't work for them.
My story, nothing unique. Fell in love with trading over ten years ago, blew up multiple accounts & donated to the market's large sums of money. sniff sniff !! What a journey. Was it worth all it took to get here? Hell yea!!
I'm a discretionary trader, using price action & volume to define my market edge.
Having said that.. trading is 90% mental. I don't care what time frame, market, platform or methodology makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. We all at some point in time, realize the enemy is me, not the markets.
Favorite book.. Reminiscences of a Stock Operator
Favorite time frame .. Weekly chart
Favorite quote.. The obvious rarely happens, the unexpected constantly occurs.
The market will often go contrary to what speculators have predicted.
At these times, successful speculators must abandon their predictions
and follow the action of the market. Prudent speculators never argue
with the tape. Markets are never wrong, but opinions often are.
Remember, the market is designed to fool most of the people most of the time
First of all thanks Mike for creating this forum. Am new here. Could someone point me from where to start in this forum. This forum is huge.
Well about me, I trade the 5min charts taking cue from higher time-frame charts. Mostly rely on fibonacci and elliot waves. My biggest problem has been in taking stop-losses. I still sometimes become emotional on my positions. But learning it the hard way.
I dont know if I could contribute much to this forum, but what's wrong in a try.
Glad to be here. I traded a couple of years ago forex and lost my wallet! Im now sim trading futures and lately have found I have more winners than losers. Well see.
Ideally, I would like to form a group of maybe 5 people so we can compare notes and strategies via skype. Again, we'll see.
