A) You're missing the point. It's MY money. I earned it. I should be able to dictate where it goes and who it helps....
B) You totally miss the boat on why members of the military do their jobs. It's true that a number of people enlist initially for less than "honorable" or altruistic reasons, but the people that stay, do so for more than money (lord knows they don't get rich) and more than education or benefits. Some people LOVE their job in the military. They love the sense of accomplishment, they love the feeling of pride they receive when others are appreciated. They love their country and above all, they do it because they realize that someone has to do it.
C) We could argue the merits or liabilities in foreign policy, but the fact remains that we have wounded veterans who do not receive top notch support when they return.
I'd gladly give my time and money to a soldier who lost a limb or is partially/totally disabled over some 300 lb, baby factory who smoked 2 packs a day, eats 3x as much food as they should and isn't interested in doing anything other than watching The View and making more babies so she can get more welfare money.
You can spare me the "not everyone is lazy" speeches, the fact is......individuals should be the determinant and operable masters of their wealth and their charity.....NOT the government.
I could name program after program that's failing miserably and a complete waste of money. Do you remember the whole ACORN disaster? Do you remember the fraud and abuse that came from $Billions in wasted FEMA disbursements? There's a zillion examples of how poorly managed government appropriated funds are spent.
Again, the issue at hand is that it's not the government's money. It's my money. It's your money. We should be able to decide who and what it goes toward helping.
Taxes are necessary. But not for "social" issues. Those issues were always intended to be handled at the state level. NOT the federal level.
It's a very WEAK argument that social security or healthcare or education have anything to do with the commerce clause.
The sad reality is that the Federal government sold those items during "crisis." The government is always selling some gloom/doom scenario in order to strip us of our constitutionally protected rights. The Patriot Act...income taxes, social security, medicare/medicaid, TARP, etc....etc....etc.
Another tenet of libertarianism is government in it's smallest form and at it's LOWEST level.
