Guys, tonight I made some performance tweaks to Apache (our web server). It's making better use of our 8GB of memory on the server now, and has reduced the load quite a bit, plus I feel that pages are now loading much faster.
You'll probably only be able to tell if you are on a very high speed connection already, but let me know your feedback if you can "feel" the difference
I'm going to wait a few days so I can see what Google reports in the webmaster's lab for the site speed, then I have some more changes I want to make and see if it improves things or not.
Added quick links to the " Elite Access" navbar page for Elite members. I did this because it seems a lot of people were clicking the button looking for Elite content and when shown a "Here's how to donate" page they were confused, because they were already Elite.
Now at the bottom of some threads, if the keyword search score is high enough, the forum will display what it believes to be similar threads.
For instance, on the Hurley Method thread I took this screen shot just now of what Similar Threads were displayed from the bottom of the page:
Not all threads will show a result box at the bottom with Similar Threads. This is because the score was not high enough for the forum to feel confident that other threads were similar.
This might be useful to you to find threads with similar topics. Just look at the very bottom of the page as you are viewing the thread.
I've changed the Top 20 stats on the homepage from a 30-day window to a 90-day window.
This means that now threads created within the last 90 days will become part of the statistics, instead of only threads created within the last 30 days.
The statistics are displayed/sorted by the number of replies or numbers of views per thread. Threads older than the 90-day cut off are not displayed. The general idea with this Top 20 list is to keep the material "fresh".
However, nothing is perfect, and it highlights "fresh" topics more than it highlights "old" topics. If I set the date to forever (no age cut off) then threads that are not being regularly updated, but used to be, are still shown. I felt that the 30-day window was a good compromise, but after feedback from a user I reconsidered and changed it to 90-days.
In a perfect world the user would be able to easily switch between 30 days, 90 days, and all time. Unfortunately, this module doesn't allow that so you'll have to live with what I select for the entire group
