Hello all fellow traders. Beginner here, browsing through and found this forum. Seems like a great place of knowledge and information to help me improve my day trading skills.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I am also struggling with disciplined trading. Lots of great info here. Thanks Mike for hosting such a great source of information and a place for discussion.
I am hopeful that I can become a better trader by being an active member.
Greetings all, wanted to introduce myself. I am a new trader, trying to learn as much as I can before I jump in.
I really look forward to participating in the forum.
I came here to extend my reach further into the futures trading community. I was introduced to futures when I began working in the Eurodollar Options pit at the CBOT in Chicago. I've been working/trading in the industry ever since. I trade CL and ES the heaviest, as well as several peripheral markets when I feel the opportunity is right. I mostly trade options, and synthetic spreads if it involves futures contracts. I've tried every platform/data connection under the sun, and am excited to learn as well as lend advice.
I am just getting started into futures trading and found this forum to be an invaluable source of information, so I figured I'd join and bounce around some ideas with some of the more experienced traders in the world.
I am not your typical trader I guess. I got started in the markets while I was still in the Marine Corps when I took about half of my money from two deployments and invested it. I more than doubled my money in a few years and I was hooked. I have since then done swing trades and long term trades of equities as a supplemental income.
After leaving the Marine Corps and finishing college I have been consistently underemployed. I eventually decided to trade for a living, since I already made a large portion of my income from trading, while putting very little effort into it. In addition to my long term trading I thought I'd diversify into futures, and so here I am. I am lucky enough to be currently living with family, so I am not trading rent money. Here's to hoping those of us newbies can work through the learning curve until we are profitable and can advise the newbies on here a few years from now!
So, I have been working at becoming a successful trader for about 5 years now. In my attempt I have lost more money than I could made in five years at a job. I often wonder if anyone can make a living at this or if my dream of making good money from my house is a lost cause. After reaching a low point and ready to give up, my wife finds this forum that seems like it can shed some light on answering some of these questions. This forum is different than other forums in the way it looks like everyone is working together and you don't see any fighting.
I am happy to see that people can make a living trading the market. I appreciate all the input and hope to share a story of success in the future.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts and to you Mike for starting this in the first place.
I studied Eectrical Engineering some decades ago, and therefore I have some affinity to mathematics and programming. However, I am not a mathematician, nor a programmer ( what a pity ...) but I use those skills on my quest for the "holy grail".
I am mainly into stock prediction. Currently I am trying to copy models from scientific publications, manly those which show up with promising results. This includes VAR models, Neural Networks, genetic programming, Wavelet, Technical Analysis etc. (My next implementation will be a vector support machine based model). I am doing my work mostly in R and matlab.
So far, I haven't been very successful with these models. (In this respect I would like to add murphy's law of the quant scientist: Excellent results are those which can't be repeated) I would be very interested to get good hints, e.g. which publications might worth a look into, too discuss them, share results etc. Maybe this Forum is of some help here.
I have been wanting to learn how to trade, so started to look into some schools and the reviews are not encouraging. I am here to learn how to get started with quality material and training. Any advice is welcome!
