Well, I can tell you what I did NOT liked about it. I used Ninja, Multicharts and now Tradestation. Ninja can get very messy when using a multiple screen setup using a notebook that you like to take back and forward. It is very CPU hungry and surprisingly made my notebook screen for more cooling air. Multicharts is lighter, definitely faster but does not have some of the cool features TradeStation has. Tradestation is slower so you really need a good high performance notebook for this one.
EasyLanguage is WAY simpler to put in your trading ideas and strategies, and I am a programmer for over 30 years, in > 10 different languages, but debugging for a trading platform can cost you a lot of money. Yes it is sexy to get your own strategy on C+(#,++) but I think you are wasting a lot of valuable time in doing so. And buying someone else's....well...I always think that nobody is out there to give me my daily bread, I have to work for it 😊😜
Now if you are happy with Ninja and using the standard indicators (which are NOT BAD, they have been proven and most of them do have a valid reason behind it, even if they are looking into the past) then there is nothing wrong with Ninja or Multicharts, but if you like to do also some swingtrading with Stocks than I think TS is the better choice (just watch out for market orders as they like to take you to the cleaners with those 🤣😒😢😢
Hi,
I only write code for Ninjatrader and ThinkorSwim. While Ninjatrader is sometimes clunky, I feel it is fairly straightforward to code on and have great luck programming solid performing Indicators and Strategies. Did you have a chance to try the "Strategy Builder" and also the "NinjaScript Editor"? I sometimes use the Strategy Builder Wizard before I enhance the coding. Also, the Bloodhound add-on is useful and time saving. You can export your scripts directly into Microsoft Visual Studio from NinjaTrader if that is any plus to you. I know of some programming guides and quick courses if you decide you are interested in those.
Hope this helps.

I think the lower level languages give you a slight execution advantage, but that probably is a non-factor with longer timeframe trades (>= 60 minutes). EasyLanguage has some limitations unless you start working with some of the advanced features. I am the opposite as you: moving from TradeStation to MultiCharts, but our focus is purely futures with a little forex thrown in for flavor.
Are you sure that you aren't grandfathered in to use CQG data through IB though? In either case IB isn't really a futures specialist so I wasn't considering that when I made my statement. You can use a few brokers like IB or TD Ameritrade, but then you have to deal with the issues you get from brokers that don't specialize in futures.
As for the overall platform cost, it is not unreasonable to ask $1100 for a lifetime license of the leading software platform. It is on the more expensive side, but it's not crazy. Optimus Flow / Quantower is $997 for the lifetime license. Jigsaw is $579 plus $50 per month.
One of the issues is that it seems people want there to be a right answer to everything, but the world just doesn't always work like that. Every major platform out there has positives and negatives. The only platform that I would actively advise against is MT4 lol.
Yes, you are right. I forgot that I bought multibroker license when AMP was still available (which is not now).
I decided for IB because, I feel much better to have OCO orders on brokerage servres than to have them simulated on my computer only.
You wrote: "you have to deal with the issues you get from brokers that don't specialize in futures." I´m not sure what types of issues do you have in mind?
When things get crazy its inevitable that I'll see a few customers on platforms like ThinkorSwim complaining about execution and so forth. Kind of the same thing as how Robinhood is always down when we're having huge selloffs.
One thing that might be relevant, is dedication to a purchased product. I have had lifetime multi-broker Ninjatrader and Multicharts licenses for a number of years. I would feel guilty of wasting money if I did not use these platforms. I also have a 2000i tradestation version that does not see much use. I am happy with my NT8 and can make money with it. However, there are other options available for someone who is not committed to a platform yet.
I am truly curious as to your claims, specifically, just....
....any problem can't be resolved with ....
immediate telephone....
Not to question your sincerities or anything like that, but....
pray tell us WHICH number that you used, that could reach the
NT platform person....?
Are you just trying to be accommodating to NT.... LOL?
Yes, I am a lifetime Multibroker license holder too....
Yes, NT apparatuses are second to none....
that does not mean technicians behind the scene
are likewise, nevertheless, most are pretty very good
like Mr. P for example.
But then there are also problems unresolved for days and
weeks, trying to explain that my CPU, my RAM, my setup
are too limited to allow NT8 to function to its top capabilities....
The tech probably should have ascertain what kind of
contraptions were used to trade with NT8....?
Intel i9
RAM 32
Drive 2T
Monitors 6 42" 4k etc
Maybe these are inadequate for some
but I am super happy, every trading session.
Thx for listening everyone, especially
those behind the scene technicians.

I’m running NT8 for about two years now on a self built computer with I7-6700k, 32RAM, Samsung SSD Pro and Multi-Monitor-Card without any performance problems. That NT8 is based on C# and doesn’t use “simplified languages” is a positive attitude for me, because it means for me “No Limits”. 1k for a lifetime license is ok if you think about, how many work it needs to develop a platform and support it. Of course, I also have some problems with NT and often with my backtest-results, because the order execution is sometimes far from reality. In my opinion the only trustworthy backtest is a run on market replay.
