I have been trading approximately 7 years now with minimal success. I started out on a whim and knew absolutely nothing. I didn't even know what an indicator was when I placed my first trade. I didn't know indicators existed. Then I started trading with a "guru" who turned out to be nothing more than a scam artist. Unfortunately I picked up some bad ideas from him. In theory they sounded good but in practice they were horrible. In the last 2 years I have slowed down the bleeding not because I wanted to but because funds were getting low. Last year I finally began to understand what I think I needed to know. This year the account is on an upward trend but very slow. I have a major psychological barrier of fear resulting from all those wrong way trades I used to take.
You have come to the right place for info this place is loaded with so much u mite get lost for hours/days in here. Has happened to me a few times lol, ur looking for a edge "your" own edge that will pop out to u on the screen that you can repeat. Some have there own idea of a edge and just need confluence from watching others some need to watch others to find out what there edge is. When u find that edge and can repeat it day in/out you will know ur ready to be a trader. Best of luck to ya!

My name is Andy Nguyen I stumble to this site by searching for informations on ES vz ZB spread and found this site. I first started trading futures in 1986. My first account was $3,000.00 and T-Bonds margin was $1,200.00 last me for 3 months close account with $800.00. Then open another account in 1988 with $3,000 I last for few months again close the account with little over $1,000.00. Now I have a small account and looking to put more money after I kick my mortage out the front door.
Yes,...80% to 85% win rate is absolutely possible. Linda Bradford Raschke is one of the many veteran traders who achieved this winning rate. I can add Al Brooks with the same rating.
I'm new to the forum and to trading. This is by far the best investment of my time in learning. Thanks everyone.
Question: I'm trying to decide on IqFeed and Sierra or stick with ThinkOtSwim. What's the major difference?
Also, I'm trading on Nadex therefore does all this matter anyway?
Hi- I've been a trader my entire career, starting in college where I took my student loan money and blew up. After that experience, I started to read about technical analysis and started to trade based on classic chart patterns, which worked for awhile. Again, I borrowed $5000 from a bank , opened a margin account , in 3 months, the account was worth $120,000.
I was 23 and so proud of myself that I bought a brand new BMW(1976), took a vacation to Acapulco , and yes I inhaled!
In Mexico while I was living la dolce vita, I had a long copper position on , on the basis of a major strike by the copper producers that would decrease the supply. Well, you guessed it, there was a strike, except the 2 major copper producers, Kennecott and Phelps Dodge settled and copper was limit down for 3 days! Not only was I wipe out I went into a $20,000 deficit . I was a broker for Bache at the time and that was a Nono , I was almost thrown out of the business, but I settled and agreed to pay the money back plus 12% interest and I did, it took me 4 years but I paid everything back, par plus accrued. After that I did a lot of sole searching and there were no mentors back then, so I had to figure it out for myself and I wouldn't have wanted to do it any other way. I tell people I'm autodidactic , self taught, the school of hard knocks, and I'm still learning. I then (1978) , couldn't take losing money every year , so I read a book called " Beat The Market", by Ed Thorp. That book turned me from a losing trader to a trader that was making 20-25%, returns consistently . I was managing $12mm dollars at my peak in 1985, I was living in New Haven,Ct. then, and no I didn't go to Yale. I always wanted to be a Wall Street trader, so I parlayed my little business into a career on Wall St at what is now one of the top hedge funds in the world(AUM $25bil),. When I joined in March 1986 we had $200mm and making money and then the crash in 87 came and we made 6% for the year and investors redeemed and our AUM went to $80mm , when I joined I was a Sr.conv arb trader, then migrated to distressed debt/ bankrupt investing ( which I loved), then to the number 2 person running trading, research an portfolio managers. When I left in April 1999, we were managing $2bill. So here I am , 62 trading my own money and excited to be an elite member of this elite group. I hope you enjoyed my little story, I left out the good stuff, like the ferraris, well just one,and the plane, well truth be told I gave a bridge loan to the owner of the plane, he was a real estate developer, collateralized by the plane and the property. I sold plane and property because I'm a trader .
I'm honored to be a part of this elite group and look forward to chatting with you all, enjoy.- RD
I don't know if this is the right forum, but I signed up for the elite membership and contributed the $100. When I signed in it didn't recognize me as an Elite Member, what do I need to do on my end? Thanks Ralphd
I have read several interesting topics in this forum, and eventually I have decided to sign up. I have experience in swing trading with EOD bars using technical analysis, but I started becoming interested in intraday trading 2-3 years ago. I know several things about Price action, but I knew very little about volume and order flow until recently (I have attended an interesting course). I want to increase my knowledge on this subject in order to improve my intraday trading, which has been very inconsistent so far.
I am a past-time trader and also a beginner in trading Futures. I wanna start with trading HSI Futures and hope to learn from all buddies here. Thanks.
