Hi my name's Rich. I've been trading futures and options for 4 years using Elliot Wave, and Technical Analysis. Recently been incorporating Hurst Cycle timing.
From November of last year I dove headfirst into learning how to code with Python, and have been playing around with Quantopian, which I've found has serious limitations from a TA standpoint. Now looking for the right trading platform to begin testing strategies, any advice is welcome; API with IB, Tradestation, Metatrader...
I use Tradingview for charting, and both IB and TD as brokers at the moment.
Most recently, I'm interested in Neural Networks, but am a complete noob in that area. Again any advice in ;earning how to train an algorithm, or in the general area of machine learning for trading would be GREATLY appreciated.
Many thanks
Rich

Thanks Mike for your efforts in building this forum. Hope to be a contributor in time.
Not completely new to trading. Always been an amature but, getting a bit wiser with age.
Would like to achieve the level which gives me option to go full time and meet or exceed my current income level.
Spent many hours reading post here before joining so I know there are many gracious and successful traders which to learn from.
I have been trading futures for the past 9 yrs and I have had varying success. I look forward to reading and participating in this forum and learning more from each other. I believe the best way to stay profitable is to limit my losses and keep my risk in line with my goals and size of my account. Be positive and stay positive! Thanks !
I've dabbled in active trading for almost 10 years, since I was in my mid-20s. Got inspired while studying securities analysis in my MBA, started with CFDs and blew an account. Moved on to forex robots (bought, not built), and blew another one. Finally built some wealth doing value investing, and currently run my own business doing something else entirely (partly computer-related).
Now back at trading, with futures this time, on TradeStation, and using only a very small portion of my net worth. I've been writing algorithms mainly based around line break charts or on the RSI on traditional candlestick charts. Line-break looks good in backtesting but performs unpredictably in sim testing. That won't surprise anyone. RSI still isn't giving me pleasing results; I still have trouble with basic EL things like getting setStopLoss to work reliably. Not trading anything live currently.
I look forward to learning from you all, and hope I can offer something when I've got this nailed.

I started trading Stocks in the mid 90s on a short term basis, including some day trades. I had modest success and after six months was up about 25%. Then I made the mistake of buying a stock that was recommended by 2 analysts. Accounting irregularities were soon discovered and the stock tanked and I lost the 25% I had gained.
About 6 years ago I purchased some of Larry Williams books and became interested in Commodities. I paper traded for a while then about 3 years ago started trading with real money with a modest amount of capital. I lasted about six months. The First two trades wiped out a third of my account and after that it was a slow death. I certainly did not managed risk.
Then early last year a co-worker suggested I look into a penny stock that a member of his church was following, I decided to buy and soon afterward the stock went up 5 times. I decided to bail as the stock tumble down and got out with 3 times my money. Now I was hooked again.
Since then I have purchases and read books on trading and have looked at various markets trying decide what markets I should trade and how I should trade. Back in July of 2015 I decided to look into forex trading and have been studying the forex market which includes paper trading. For the last 9 months I have been trading forex with real money and with a very small account. At this point I would classify myself as a break even trader.
Currently my day job is CFO of West Third Street, Inc and Affiliates. The primary business is real estate with companies that develop software applications.
I hold the following designations. CMA (Certified Management Accountant) CFM ( Certified in Financial Management)
