Jura, I really appreciate the time it must have taken to provide that information. Thank you.
I have MCDT now. So, I cannot make use of EL (or PL). I assume that MDT users can utilize alerts. I'll read all that you provided before I comment further. Thanks again.
Ah sorry I didn't know that. In that case, you can skip the parts regarding the EasyLanguage since indicators cannot be edited in MCDT.
I've attached an screenshot from MC6 with the Alert settings (including email). These can be found with the Alerts tab from each indicator.
I don't see any option in MC6 to give a custom Alert text (though perhaps this is included in MCDT), but otherwise you could make custom sound files to differentiate between alerts. For example, a voice with tells you a certain conditioned has happened. AT&T has a great free gimmick for this on their site, which works surprisingly good.
Indeed, that screenshot you provided is what I saw that got me started on this inquiry... I don't see where one can input the conditions though. So, if the indicator is let's say the 20 EMA, where does one instruct MC to fire an alert when it is breached, on the upside or downside?
Hm, good question. It seems that MultiCharts gives an alert with crosses above and crosses below when using an alert for an MA - the same logic seems to apply to a horizontal line (see attached image) and I guess other types of line as well. When using the "Mov Avg 2 Lines" you can get an alert when both moving average lines cross.
Anyway, to answer your question: as far as I know, you can't tell MC to give an alert with an downside or upside breach - by default MC gives an alert in both cases.
I don't know if MCDT has Market Replay, but alerts should also work in Market Replay mode.
I've talked to our dev team, and it seems that making Market Data Playback tradeable has risen in importance, as it's been stressed by a number of users. We may see it implemented sooner than later. Imho, would be a good addition to all of the tools already available.

I did hear back from Jeff at MC (promptly, as usual), and I was directed to the Help tab, and to search on alerts. I captured a rolling screen shot, for those interested (attached).
It would seem that email alerts can and do work (get triggered) even when the computer is off, MC closed, and the corresponding workspace not open. Would be great to get confirmation as I won't have time until to fully test until next week.
