This might also sound very rudimentary, but are you using an ethernet connection instead of wifi. I just did a test using the ChartLagTime when on ethernet the lag time on the average was 150 milliseconds and on wifi the average was about 350 milliseconds.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
The lagging issue happens for me when NT has a thread on one CPU-core pegged at 100% as a result of high volume events. I believe the issue is how NT deals with every incoming tick. This is where I think the bottleneck occurs. You can see on the chart the data continues to stream but is delayed. However, the chart is responsive to user interaction (resizing, scrolling) which means the charts are rendering in real-time and at a high FPS. Just the incoming data appears to be delayed. NT eventually catches up once it has processed all the incoming data.
I just downloaded Sierra Chart and getting it set up for charting only and trading off of NT. Today I was comparing the datafeeds and both were within milliseconds of each other, though Sierra Chart seemed to ignore a tick here and there. Anyway, I was paper trading on SC and watching my indicators on NT when I decided to do a PT trade on SC. I inadvertently clicked my order on NT though. But, when I went to cancel the order, nothing. I couldn't cancel. Of course the market decided that was a good moment to move 8 points against me. I was a bit panicked. The window wouldn't respond to my mouse, cursor or clicks. There's probably an error in an indicator or something. I've reached out to NT. They're assisting me.
Luckily, my trader was set up to trade the sim account. No money was lost.
Why is that? What problems have you experienced? Aside from this recent little problem, most likely due to an error in code that I wrote for it, I think it is a wonderful platform. Easy to use, powerful. Their DOM sucks, but otherwise, it's very user configurable.
OR try Tradovate. The volume profile setup on Tradovate is awesome. Much easier to use than on Sierra Charts, also the charting graphics on SC are superior, however the layout on Tradovate is really nice. I use both one on each screen and all needs covered nicely.
My two cents. The lag problem is widespread, but you don?t have to trash Ninja. Here is what works for me and I run 50-60 charts X 2 workspaces with many indicators on each chart.
My big Falcon powers through as long as I do the following
? Minimize or eliminate calculate-on-each-tick. It is hardly ever justified.
? Load charts with what you need, but load bars, not days.
? Clean cache and DB weekly
? Sync clock daily and watch data lag indicator, always. Mine will hiccup at the open or news, especially NQ.
? If anything looks hinky, I watch a DOM as well,
? Watch your Internet. Mine is low latency and fast, so it is very rarely the problem
? Take a hard look at your 3rd party indicators. Fat Tails is an expert at this. I found several that were trash, and the vendors blew me off. Dump those indicators and submit vendors here for public crucifixion.
Wow there is a lot of misinformation in this thread. See @FatTails post for good info.
I run multiple workspaces with lots of windows/tabs/instruments in debug mode on two 4k monitors with a 2015 based mid-level processor, 32G of RAM, and using built in graphics. Never see lag.
NT8 internal arch is not ideal is being kind, but it can be a decent platform especially if you want to extend it. You do have to be careful and tune everything though.
