It is part of of a larger multi functional indicator that I use. I think of it as more of a congestion indication, then chop indication. I basically look for frog in a blender bars, 3 or 4 successive bars alternating green and red , then I draw a gray square on the 50ma, and if I see 3 or more previous bars opening and/or closing inside the range of the current bar, I draw a yellow square. Should be simple to code. If I get some time I may look at pulling out the code into a separate indicator.
The EMA(50) is powerful.
Tomorrow I'm going to manually trail
my stop outside of it and use the FI
to exit. But if I had to trade with
one indicator the 50 is it. Sometimes
I jump the gun with it and totally
miss out on the trend. I'm learning
it's better to be late to the party as
it can be cancelled in a NY minute.
One trade today. I either "undertrade"
or overtrade. Guess which days I
do better?
I suspect that most traders on this thread use NT. So do I, but I am anxiously attempting to move to Sierra Charts or MC.
Problem: Can't seem to figure out how to set the indicators, that came with SC, to meet the settings or look of the NT indicators for Perry's Method. I have come close, but no cigar. EX: Force Index in SC does not have an option to set to a Moving Average or Length. EX2: The DMI&ADX&ADXR indicator gives different readings when compared to overlaying the ADX with DMI and with the ADXR (All settings are at 5).
Moving averages are as close as I think they will get.
Question: Has anyone ported these indicators to SC? Does anyone know how to setup the indicators in SC to mimic the NT indicators?
Screen shots provided, but probably hard to see the differences - still figuring out the chart setting on SC too.. Oh, I am using the same data feed - Rithmic
I would appreciate any help.
PS: Perry I look forward to much more! Thanks and take care of yourself.
Attached is a source file and dll that contain the force index and DMI/ADX. They are really quite simple. Just put the dll in your data dir, and apply a custom study, and select from the Perry dll.
