Trying to upgrade NT in both my laptop (windows 7) and PC (Vista). Laptop upgraded fine. All of my indicators imported and working. However, the PC is another question: none of my indicators will import and very few (10) of the Ninja Trader standard indicators are even listed. Plus none of them will install on the chart. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times with the same result. IS ANYONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM? IF SO, i NEED HELP! BTW NT support=zero help.
Thanks in advance.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Sounds like a prior custom assembly was protected/obfuscated with RemoteSoft which now breaks NT7. You need to remove custom assemblies and only add ones that are listed to work with your NT version.
Does not sound like a Remotesoft problem. Remotesoft problem occurs when upgrading from NT 7.0.1000.2 to NT 7.0.1000.4. As I understand this was an upgrade from NinjaTrader 6.5 to NinjaTrader 7.
What you should do:
(1) Make a new install of NT 7.0.1000.4 on your PC. No upgrade. Then test the new installation, whether it is working.
(2) You can manually copy your indicator files (don't copy system indicators, as some of the system indicators of NT 6.5 will not work with NT 7.0
(3) You will not be able to transfer the database (chart data) from NT 6.5 to NT 7.0
(4) You will have to rebuild your workspaces and templates.
Afterwards you can make a backup for both machines, and eventually try to import the backup you made on the laptop (no idea whether this works). If it does not work you can reinstall the backup you made from your PC.
Thanks Fat Tails....are you saying that I should also uninstall the present 6.5 I am using on my PC? In other words start the NT 7 install with a clean slate?
I haven't used NT in a very long time, but when someone says half of their indicators are missing - it is usually an assembly problem, and the most common one is old assemblies protected with RemoteSoft.
NT 6.5 and NT 7.0 are two entirely different programs and use different folders. You can actually have installed them in parallel, such as Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Just when you install NT 7.0, do not import anything from NT 6.5 when the install program asks you, but start with a fresh install.
When someone posts that our support is zero help it concerns me since I want to make sure my team is on top of things. I reviewed your case history and here is what I see transpired.
- Your laptop upgrade is working fine
- Your PC that uses Vista is not
- You have two user developed indicators (you do not know who the author is) and these indicators compile fine on your laptop however, not all indicators are listed in any drop down box
- This is where the communication stopped
This behaviour usually means that an installation has a RemoteSoft protected assembly loaded. I would follow FatTails advice to start with a fresh install, no outside indicators loaded and ensure that this is working. Then you can add back these two user developed indicators, should they compile --> It should work.
For all who are experiencing the above problem with moving from NT 6.5 to NT 7 here is how I solved it: I scrubbed every single thing that had to do with Ninja Trader from my computer... every file, even every document that remained after the uninstall...DELETED EVERYTHING! Then started back at the very beginning with the NT 7 install. Just like a newbie. It worked perfectly, not a single glitch. It now runs like a champ and even took most of my old indicators. It was just that simple. Thanks Fat Tails for giving me the original clue. The only thing you had wrong was that I DID have to get rid of the old 6.5 that I had been running. One caution: make sure you have your original account connection password and ID handy before you start. I had to dig through a mountain of stuff to find mine.
