Unwilling to budge on the country's low corporate tax rate, Enda Kenny's Irish government has chosen to target pensioners for funds to grow the economy.
That couldn't happen here... it would be like General Electric not having to pay taxes and middle class Americans getting a tax increase... Oh, wait....

Everything is a decision with benefits and costs....
Raising corporate taxes is a short sighted solution to long term problems. Just like the environment.
No one wants to trash the environment. But raising taxes results in job losses. Just like signing up to unfair/asymetric environmental treaties.
Everyone is in favor of environmental regulations till they discover it's going to cost them their job.
Everyone wants to raise taxes on business until they find their pink slip because they're job is being eliminated or relocated overseas to some lower tax burden haven.
Relevant to the story is that this is EXACTLY why our founding father's included the 2nd Amendment. You can best bet that something like this would never happen here.....there'd be "patriots" that would come out of the woodwork and unlike the Irish, we Americans have the means to resist an oppressive government.
Shooting at the "gov'ment' can get you a free tour of GitMo.
The Patriot Act says if the "oppressive government" declares you a "Terrorist" you no longer have any Constitutional Rights.
A Bill named the Patriot Act ... pushed through by a "Patriotic" President from Texas ... being used to ambush Texas Patriots ... talk about Ironic... I gotta ask... did ya vote fer "W" ?

We don't have the means to resist an oppressive government. Popguns, even ones that shoot real fast, are no match for tanks and helicopter gunships and the NSA. And they are no match for the propaganda machine out there. Whenever I read a phrase like "Patriot" or "Fair Tax" or "Defense of Marriage" attached to a piece of legislation, I know somebody's about to get screwed.

Yeah. Clinton raised taxes and we lost a whole lot of jobs. Then Bush lowered them and we had eight straight years of private sector job growth! Go Art Laffer!

If the government ever gets to the point where they're literally looting people's accounts, you can best bet the Patriot Act won't matter to me much.
Yes, I voted for GWB. Not because I liked him, but the alternative was disgusting. God help us if Gore or Kerry had been President. I hated Bush. I'm not a fan of the Patriot Act. I'm a libertarian, which means even though I disagree with conservatives and Republicans, I despise them less than liberals and Democrats.
Even if every Army on Earth united and attempted to "invade" the US, they'd give up within a couple of months.
We have more guns/capita than any other nation.
Look at our invasion of Iraq and the difficulties we encountered there and multiply that x 100 and it wouldn't begin to encapsulate the difficulties of policing the masses of people with guns in this country.
Our Army isn't designed to execute police actions. Our military, even with all it's technology and sophistication, is designed for conventional warfare against combatants who wear uniforms and openly resist.
Invading the US, you'd find a whacko with a rifle behind every tree, every church, every post office, ever highway....
The only way you could effectively police even 1 southern state (like Georgia) with an Army 10x the size we have now would be to intern the entire population and treat them all as hostile, which as history shows, only incites more resistance and more violence.
Trust me, invading the US or trying to control a population who no longer observes or respects the government would be an impossible task.
I actually liked "W" when he was governor, wished he'd never left Texas.
I wasn't a fan or Gore or Kerry... but ... had they been elected.. 4000 US Military personnel would still be alive and we would have an extra $1 Trillion in the Treasury....
Once they get to Washington ... Republicans and Democrats have one goal.... lining their own pockets
Don't take anything I say personally .... HPD borrows ammo from me when they run low...
