I guess to sum up my point, it would be that socialism could work, in theory, if all the members of a society were productive. It would actually work swimingly.
The reality is that the there's no such fairy tale world. In sad reality, 50% of the people you meet are below average. Below average height. Below average intelligence. etc, etc, etc. And the problem with socialism is that it rewards the lazy, the inept, the unindustrious, etc, and all those people have to do is reproduce.
Benjamin Franklin said it best....
"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic"
Just ask California how their direct democracy spending is going? They're going bankrupt and they think that raising taxes will solve the problem, but really, it will only ensure the inevitable....that they continue to decline. Successful people are moving out of California in droves. People that would otherwise start successful businesses there are seeking places like Houston, Austin, etc....
When the number of people who are below average, figure out all they have to do is use their numbers to rob the people who are above average....it's the beginning of the end. We've reached that fulcrum.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
A) The number of billionares is a poor indicator of the average health of a society. I'd look more at median standard of living.
B) Money is the opener and the closer for most women, everything int the middle is up to you
C) Although I think proper sex education helps, I think the better motivator would be to tell people...if you have a baby, that's your problem. Not mine. Figure it out. I didn't get the pleasure of getting your gal pregnant, why should I bear the burden of the outcome?
D) I said nothing of race. There's plenty of worthless white people in America. In fact, more white people are on welfare than minorities (although that's rapidly changing), simply because there are more white people. Intelligence and hard work, innovation, etc, are irrespective of race. There are plenty of wealthy and successful minorities and even they aren't having children at the same rate.
Case and point on people who have good intentions and think the world will be a better place with a more powerful government and less free citizens. You can be bad guys too.
There was a study done recently where people were polled on whether they:
Would torture another human for enough money - 80%+ said no
Were offered money to do things considered torture on a scared person in a medical environment - 90%+ said yes
This is kind of funny: right before talking about how easily lead people are in general; I joined someone in thanking a comment having just read the last sentence of it.
I agree with your stance against socialism RM99, but a lot of what you are saying here has been blatantly wrong for a long time.
1) I admit it, I was wrong. The US is only #2 in real, median household income, behind Luxembourg. So I guess I should have clarified, that among all the nations on Earth with more than 1M people and that aren't vacation havens for the rich, the US is number 1....still.
2) Please list all the significant innovations and developments that have originated from EU nations in the past 25 years. Or just list any. Or I'll make you a deal....for everyone you list, I'll list 10 American innovations and they'll be more significant.
3) Music? Really? You're going to argue this point? I mean, only like 3/4 of the record sales worldwide are American artists/groups...but you can argue if you'd like.
4) Manufacturing? I wasn't talking about manufacturing as an idustry, I was talking about innovations in manufacturing. You look at a manufacturing facility in the US and then look at one overseas and tell me the difference. One only need to walk through a Wal Mart distribution center to see the innovations we've made.
5) Again, you list all the "innovations" that have come out of China and for every attempt, I'll list 10x as many American innovations that dwarft them. There's a reason that China has no Nobel Laureates. It's called communism. The good people of China don't get to choose their profession, the state chooses for them. Somewhere in China is the next Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, but he's operating a plastic extrusion machine right now that copies cheap American toys sold in coin machines outside of Wal Mart stores.
6) China does NOT produce aircraft (none that anyone would want to buy). Get back to me when they have an Airbus or a Boeing.
I admire your constraint. Civilizations come, expand, spend, loose control, and go. We need to learn from natural systems like ants, bees, and even monkeys, scratching each other's backs to survive.
