Along with group members Michelle Quigg, Vanessa Suttil, and Morgan Geisler, Cullis-Suzuki presented environmental issues from a youth perspective at the summit, where she was applauded for a speech to the delegates.[4][5] The video has since become a viral hit, popularly known as "The Girl Who Silenced the World for 6 Minutes"[6].
the Amazon is still being destroyed at a rate of the size of Belgium each year
Madagascar has been almost completely deforested
millions of acres of arable land are being lost to desert each year (China and Africa)
Russia flares so much natural gas that from the shuttle it is visible.
toxic waste is being dumped in the oceans and the fine is only $25,000
they still allow dragnet trawling
Japanese herd dolphins into a bay and slaughter them alive filling the water full of blood
Chicken hatcheries confine the birds so tightly in cages that to keep them from pecking themselves to death (i.e. committing suicide) they cut off the beaks -incredibly painful and they grind up the male chicks alive.
veal comes from baby calves that are never allowed to move or see sunlight.
we have released so much CO2 into the atmosphere that the oceans are turning to carbonic acid which dissolves the coral reefs - nurseries of the ocean.
...
the list goes on and on..

one third - yes one third of all gasoline consumed by vehicles is from unnecessary idling. It causes more wear on your engine to idle it for 30 seconds while parked then to turn it off and on - not to mention the gas - so turn off your engine when you stop your car or are stuck in a traffic jam and go into the store.
So much mercury in the Pacific ocean that pregnant women are advise not to eat it and everyone else no more than once per week (or reading between the lines.. never). When you consider the vastness of the oceans size 70% of the surface area of the planet - it's really saying something.
The Chinese have been building dirty coal plant at an alarming rate (was 50 per week) with little in the way of scrubbers etc. and a few elite Chinese getting very rich off the cheap electricity. Coal is one of the major sources of mercury pollution.
(btw the compact florescent light have mercury in them so if you use them - which I do not recommend - do not throw them in the garbage!! The have to go to stores that promise to send them to special recycling facilities Home Hardware is one. Do they get to the special facilities? Do the facilities release a lot of pollution in recycling them? I don't know.)

Unfortunately not soon enough to save our beautiful planet I fear. Our earth that is on life support mutilated and tortured while humans are pulling out the plug.
Don't want to pick a fight but who counted the fish to determine 70% are gone....and I don't buy one third of gasoline is consumed by idling(among other things I was a ASE mechanic).
At the risk of offending my Asian friends the Chinese and the Japanese are the worst of the bunch....they still buy rhino horns, elephant tusks, whale meat, and just want the gall bladders from black bears...and on and on. Basically they won't stop until what they want is extinct.
