The solution to indicators from Big Mike's Trading Forum being sold for big bucks is to make it more likely that traders will find the indicators on futures.io (formerly BMT) instead of for sale somewhere else.
futures.io (formerly BMT) needs to advertise the fact that every trader should check futures.io (formerly BMT) for free or almost free (Elite) indicators before buying indi's somewhere else.
I'm donating $20 right now for the new futures.io (formerly BMT) advertising campaign!!!
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Let start by having an Elite thread -----> Free Indicators & Strategies.
So, there will no more be Want your NinjaTrader indicator created free thread. Indicators & Strategies contributors who are Elite members should do all their posts in the new thread. Non-Elite members who want to contribute and post their free indicators & Strategies to this new thread must have their indicators as links to the new thread (i. e. Free Indicators & Strategies) if Mike can work out how this can be achieved; they would NOT post their free indicators & Strategies directly to any "un-Elite" thread.
On those that download indicators on futures.io (formerly BMT) to sell them, there should be a kinda continuous flashy display on futures.io (formerly BMT) to indicate that the patrons of such ventures are MORONS.
Here are a few alternatives to "downloads for Elites only":
Capthcas for downloads will keep bots out but not leechers
Tiered membership: Elite vs download vs free
Various activity guides: min # of posts is obvious, but what about a rolling # of page views or "Thanks" clicks. Or someother behavior that indicates human interest and contribution (like reading multiple pages in a thread or time spent on the site). I haven't posted much yet, but I do say thanks when i see something that helps.
A trade journal takes a lot of effort, but what if you had an Elite pay, but if you kept an "active" journal, the fee could be waived for the time your journal is active. Then you could get posts "quickly" and "garbage" would just pile up in descrete threads.
Or you could limit # of downloads to X per month without paying. Need to pay more or post more (on a rolling basis) to download more than X/month.
Or what about micro charges of $0.05/download or $1/month; getting a credit card would help sift the fake/unmotivated accounts.
I am a lurker, but not a leecher (no downloads other than screen shots in journals). I am not a serious trader yet, but will come here more frequently as I make that transition. If the price to stay is $50, I should probably "bite the bullet"; that's only four ticks on an ES contract...
to date, i have posted 20 times and 17 of them are attachments, 12 of which are code. i try not to be frivolous and would be disappointed if i was restricted from my own code. and the last code i posted was something i learned from a big mike webinar.
If raising the entrance fee to the University of futures.io (formerly BMT) coupled with some type of “real person” identification addresses the “main reason” for this change then I support it. The education and insights one obtains from reading and digesting the information and materials contained in the individual threads, webinars and downloads offered by this community are outstanding. However, I would encourage some type of “free area inclusive of a few downloads ” so that first timers can get a “sense” of what futures.io (formerly BMT) is all about.
That being said, then one needs to ask what is the probability of achieving the desired results (“protect the work and ... community”) and what of unintended consequences? Not being a “techie”, one would think that there is a technical way to address the bot and fake account issue and if that means adding a fee to cover the costs then let’s do it. But, that does not address the situation where an person or entity harvests from the futures.io (formerly BMT) community an idea or technique and offers it as their own on another site or classroom, that has been going on even before this current digital world.
And lastly, do all the contributors to futures.io (formerly BMT) want all of their work “protected” or do some want to openly share without restriction?
So, for me it comes down to implementing some technical solution to address the “bot” and “fake” account issue and leave it up to the individual contributor to place their material in a free or paid (Elite) area of the futures.io (formerly BMT) site.
I agree totally with making all downloads Elite only. Heck make the whole thing elite only. Protect the community at all costs. I have received some great advice and ideas from the site and who in their right mind wouldn't return value. If an outsider was sneaking into a community and stealing or vandalizing or abusing members of the community, that community would be justified in protecting the community and keeping it a resevoir of resources. Otherwise it will be diluted very fast.
Just my two cents.
I read to page 15, jumped to page 25 and then to the end. My eyes, my eyes! I have no problem with elite only downloads and if bots are a problem a captcha module would stop that.
