I have an Advisor (Corporate account) with IB. That is only account type that allows a Master account, and ability to make sub accounts with unique account numbers. If you want to trade the same instrument on different timeframes at the same time, you need to select DIFFERENT trading accounts to do that. You will be subject to "Professional" status and higher fees for CME exchanges under the recent changes because you have an IB Advisor account. As far as NT set up and corresponding set up on IB's Trader Workstation (TWS) platform, you do have to specify unique port number values for the API on TWS and when you set up the accounts in NT.
I get live data through Kinetick. When I complained about Kinetick's unilateral classification of my account as "Professional" for CME exchange fees, they sent me a form, and based on that, re-classified my status to Non-Pro and refunded the money ($3/month instead of $180/month for Comex, Nymex, Globex, Cbot). So I connect NT to Kinetick first, start up separate instances of TWS for each account ID, then connect to those from Ninja Trader. Version of NT I am running is 64 bit 7.0.1000.21. TWS version is Build 946.2m Aug 21, 2014.
Here is the explanation I go from NT Customer Service back in 2012, and an attached photo of the TWS settings for the API in Configuration.

Thank you for your note.
There is no inbound telephone number for support, however if you would like a support call at any time you will only need to request one and we will be happy to schedule a support call with you.
2. UNIQUE ACCOUNT NAMES
NinjaTrader can connect to multiple different IB accounts that have separate login username and passwords at the same time. To set this up please see the instructions below. In order to do this however, the user must manually start TWS multiple times for each account first in the morning, then connect with NinjaTrader since the auto startup functionality does not work with multiple logins.
Manually start TWS from the desktop, if you have two accounts start it up twice with each account logged in.
When platform has started, Click Configure > API Settings > Socket Port > Provide a unique value. Default is 7496, leave this as is for the first username. Add 1 to this value to be 7497 on the second account so each account has a unique port value.
In your NinjaTrader connection for this account, match the port with what you specify in TWS for each account connection.
Connect in NT using File > Connect, you will do this twice for both account connections.
Note: The Client ID can remain at default setting. Only port needs changing in our testing.
If you would like to schedule a support call to discuss the items above I will need a few things from you before our call.
A phone number where you can be reached
A time window where I can call you (please include a time zone)
Launch our remote support application from the following link, NinjaTrader Remote Support. Once launched, the application will provide you with an ID# and password. I will need these from you once I have you on the phone.
Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.
I know what you want to do, because I had the same plan I believe.
I am using the IB Canada accounts:
- RRSP
- TFSA
- Margin
IB Side:
1) Setup a "Friends and Family" (F&F) Account - which is the master "advisor" Account - NOTE: I set this up as a NON PROFESSIONAL account
2) Create the RRSP under the F&F
3) Create the TFSA under the F&F
4) Create the Margin under the F&F
4a) Create a PAPER TRADING account (this mimics the setup above and gives you a F&F account structure above)
5) Setup the data subscription for the exchange data
6) Setup a SECOND account login for the IB Gateway
7) Setup a SECOND data service on this ID
8) Now you trade in IB's TWS, logging into the Master F&F account number and trade under the "advisor account to view account auto trades
9) NT8 logs in using IB Gateway ID and trades that using the F&F account
IE: If I had 100,000 in RRSP, 50,000 in TFSA and 10,000 in Margin - and I buy 1000 shares of SPY it would proportion the number of shares across EACH of the accounts proportionately.
NT8 side:
1) Setup your account connection to IB Gateway ID
2) Setup your strategy to trade using the F&F account.
All of this sounds pretty good eh? Well.... on the initial try, buy orders were going into IB and it wasn't selling all the accounts correctly... I only did a few tests with this - because it was live, and because I hadn't finished working out the gremlins on the NT Strategy.
I'll do some more tests with this as I get closer to getting it all working. The key is the second IB Gateway account, and use the IB Gateway - NOT the IB TWS to login.
NOTE: You COULD use the IB TWS instead of the IB Gateway program if you wish. I needed both because I wanted to use the PAPER account to auto trade, and live trade using my active account.
