Discovered in another thread that I'm not the only guy here who (mis)spent his Friday and Saturday nights as a youth racing on Forest Ln in Dallas.
Had a 70 Buick GS 455 Stage 1, arguably one of the best muscle cars ever built. An absolute sleeper. Tremendous torque. Not fast (though pegged it a couple times), but very quick. Beat Vette's, SS's, GTO's, etc. Got my rear handed to me by a Shelby and a Charger RT Hemi.
My first stang was a 91 GT, GT40 upper and lower, stage 1 heads, custom cam, dumped exhaust and lots of other stuff. I researched everything myself and my friend @Gary and I did a lot of the mods ourselves. He also had a couple stangs.
My second stang was a 99 Cobra. Also had a 99 SS around the same time but didn't do much to that car. Both cars saw action around Greenville Ave and Forest Ln for those who know Dallas This was when I was around 18.
Over the years I've had two Vettes as well, finally selling all that post-divorce and going back to sensible cars. That may not last much longer, as last year I bought a 12 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 with the Hemi, and enjoy it so much that I have been eyeballing the new 14 Jeep SRT with the 6.4L V8, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds for a SUV...
(Ignore youtube title, it's a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT not the Dodge)
That reminds me of when I had just received my drivers license, in late 1969...I went to the Buick dealer with my Mother, as she had to drop off her Buick for service and the dealer offered her a "Loaner car". The service manager said "what would you like to drive as a loaner" ?, my Mother , knowing that I liked fast cars, said, "I want the fastest car that you have" !.
They brought out a GS455 as a loaner car ! Needless to say, I had a great time with it !!!!
A great memory from my childhood, that I'll never forget....
Not really a fan of muscle cars, I had a car that gave me a huge petrol bill on weekends. We had the Fuji Speedway close enough to Tokyo and some parts of the track would be accessible. Then I came back to this part of USA and now everything's in a few blocks' radius; I take the free shuttle or a Zipcar if I need it.
You are one of the few people who call it petrol I guess. I kept hearing about 'gas' everywhere in USA (it was 2008 and oil's bull market of all bull markets was ongoing!)
When a guy from India (who learns based on what the Brits injected down here) walks into America he needs a term translator like this:
(Non USA) -> (USA)
petrol -> gas
bill -> tab
notes -> bills
doubt -> query / question
