Hi All
I'll share my experience using SC on Ubuntu/Wine step by step.
- How to create bootable USB stick:
-- on Windows
--- using LinuxLive USB Creator
--- using SuSe Studio ImageWriter , type * to see *.iso
-- on *nix
as root: dd bs=512K if=ubuntu.iso of=/dev/sdc
where /dev/sdc is a USB stick dev
check :~$ dmesg
- We need a good 2D graphics performance so:
-- get rid of unity and copmiz
:~$ sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
then reboot and log in using Gnome Fallback (no effects)
or use Untiy 2D for 12.04 because of this bug
--install proprietary video driver
--- as described for nvidia or ati
--- for newest versions Ubuntu Software Center -> Edit -> Software Sources -> Additional Drivers
- We can also tweak an SSD usage /optional/

In order to make SC more cute just put MSS font /Microsoft Sans Serif - attached, unzip it / into
/home/$user$/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts/
Rename .wine to /4ex/ sc_wine
make the link:
:~$ ln -sf /home/$user$/sc_wine/ .wine
Now one could use multiple copies of Wine for testing etc
Or use wineprefix
Or use codeweavers.com
In order to build custom studies we need an IDE and compiler.
:~$ sudo apt-get install geany gcc-mingw32
Set the environment for Geany
Build -> Set Build Commands
in my case:
Working Directory: /home/ganz/.wine/drive_c/SierraChart /ACS_Source/
Compile: i686-w64-mingw32-g++ -march=i686 -mtune=i686 -O2 -shared -static -static-libgcc -static-libstdc++ -s -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -w -c "%f"
Build: i686-w64-mingw32-g++ -march=i686 -mtune=i686 -O2 -shared -static -static-libgcc -static-libstdc++ -s -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -w "%f" -o /home/ganz/.wine/drive_c/SierraChart/Data/"%e".dll

It was tested with:
- IQFeed
- Rithmic/Zen-fire
- CTS T4 FIX
It should work with:
- IB
- TT
- AMP/TTNET
any .Net API /services will not work.

sync computer's clock
:~$ sudo apt-get install ntp

use national charset to mark charts, tabs etc

the issue
be careful with Trade -> Attach Trade Window to Chart for a chart and a TradeDOM
it doesn't work - do not detach it because of Wine issue
make a copy of a chart in order to attach

hi
i'm using linux since 1997 and was very surprised it was not used by retail users in the business: for data mining, testing, trading and so on
it was the definite sign for me about the nature of the business: this is absolutely unserious, gaming stuff as windoze gamez or tv showz - show biz
imho

I prefer Linux. But after multiple attempts every few years I resort back to Windows. This is almost all due to poor multi monitor support for six monitors on a single desktop.
I've tried everything multiple times...

Hi Mike
I've got no solution for this out of the box because my hrdwr setups are two displays per desktop
Did you try a custom config using xrandr ?
