I have made a decision and thought I would let you all know what's on my mind. Bottom line is I'm quitting the attempt to become a profitable trader. I will stay involved here at futures.io (formerly BMT) but only in an effort to maintain relationships and help where I can. I made this decision because the return on my investment of time and education just has not been good enough to convince me to continue. Further, I believe we are headed toward a collapse of our economy in the relatively near future. So, what is the point of having a nest egg if that does happen. Betsy and I are both retired now and have time to devote to making ourselves self sufficient at least as much as food and creature comforts go. We are now on a fixed income and I am compelled to make the most of what we have. Some of you may have noticed my thread on our effort to build an energy efficient home. Doing that research has produced a tremendous amount of information that I am attempting to digest and turn into a new way of life. I feel that Betsy and I will be able to go a long way toward self sufficiency in 2 years and take our family along with us. now, if I am totally wrong about where our economy is going I've lost nothing. But, I've extended the life of our retirement funds considerably.
Well, there you have it without a bunch of details of what I'm doing. Just wanted all my friends to know what I'm up to.
Thanks Mike for sharing!
This might be your best "swing trade" for a while.
Wishing you and your family a satisfying and less nervous time for the next future.
Mike best wishes for your future endeavors as you know we have both been at this for a long time from Woodies room and elsewhere indeed just the other day I was reading some of your old posts on the Tucker Report. Whatever happens come back from time to time and post every now and then if only because you enjoy doing it.
Thank you very much for this touching words and all your valuable contributions to all of us who always listened to you here on futures.io (formerly BMT), Mike !
Your words sound like a very well-considered decision you've made...and I wish you and your family all the best and a really fulfilling life without the entire 'stress' of the whole trading business.
I think we all would appreciate if you'd come around here and chime in any time you like...so for now, start off and begin to enjoy your 'new' life along with your wife and family.

My intent is to continue my participation in futures.io (formerly BMT) and actuall use it as I do Facebook. So yo aren't getting rid of me that easily. I'll still do some programming for people who just can't live without their special indicators and strategies. I will continue to do my best to inform the uninformed as much as they will listen. Chances are they won't. I didn't but still...
The other piece of my involvement I hope will be to document my journey and share it here not necesarily as post after post but references to where my journey will be documented. That still has to be firmed up. Right now I have a lot going on in my pea picking little brains and need to get it all organized. I suspect the main effort for now will be to get our house built. Hoping to be far enough along by next spring to actually get started building.
There are all kinds of examples of that sort of thing. The thing is that I really need to build whatever I build to code. Otherwise I may have problems later on if decide to move and want to sell. I laid out my approach for building our house in another thread. We have our first meeting with our consultant next week. He is a long time builder who I intend to use to keep us on the straight and narrow so to speak. Even though he has made his living building conventional structures, he is open minded and wants to work with me. However I will be acting as my own builder.
Congratulations Mike, in honesty most guys are simply unable to make such a difficult decision -- even though the numbers clearly show that not everyone can be a trader, just like not everyone can make it to the NFL or NBA, etc etc.
It is really difficult to finally come to that realization for many, but I applaud you for doing so and I absolutely wish you the very best. I believe that in most ways it will be better for you and your relationship with your family, which tends to get strained over any type of "obsession". I think trading qualifies as an obsession for most of us. Which is also what makes it so incredibly hard to finally walk away.
Thank you for sharing, thank you for being there for all of us over the years, and enjoy your "new again" retirement!
