Can a cup of joe help you earn those big bucks? I'd like to know whether or not you think coffee helps or hurts your trading. I've heard pit traders say it's best to get a good night's sleep, a decent breakfast, and some coffee before trading but I'd also like to know if screen traders feel the same way in the relaxation of their own homes.

lets say you were completely caffeine free with no withdraws etc., do you think you'd trade worse without the caffeine? like a placebo-controlled study

Red Bull, espresso, cappuccino, green tea, black tea, chocolate, coffee, Mountain Dew, colas, Excedrin and other pain relievers, diet pills, many cold remedies . . . what do they have in common? They all contain the most widely used mind-altering drug in the world – CAFFEINE. Caffeine is a big, booming business with 80-90 percent of adults reporting regular use. Consumers currently spend 30 million dollars a year on caffeine tablets and an additional 50 billion dollars each year on caffeinated soda in the United States alone – and for only two of the many forms of caffeine. This does not include chocolate, or the profitable coffee, latte and Starbucks sales (with the current growth rate on this planet of four new stores a day). Caffeine is such a widely accepted psychoactive drug that it is even fed to young children in the forms of chocolate and soda pop.
Many current news articles tell us that coffee and chocolate, despite their caffeine content, are healthy indulgences because of their rich antioxidants. We are told that they curb inflammation and decrease heart disease. I recently read results of a 15-year study out of Norway’s University of Oslo showing that post-menopausal women who drink at least a cup of coffee a day are less likely to get heart disease. Such reports cause many to believe they can coddle their addiction without guilt. Can these findings be true?
Let’s consider some facts about caffeine. Caffeine acts as a powerful vasoconstrictor in the brain. What occurs is the widespread constriction of this vital organ’s blood vessels, thereby decreasing circulation and oxygen supply by up to 30 percent. As a stimulant, caffeine increases heart rate and raises blood pressure. We all know that these are not health-creating conditions. Coffee is acid-forming in the body rather than alkalizing, and decaf coffee is even more acidic than regular. Most people suffer from extensive acidity to begin with and do not need further contribution from this ominous element. The body is forced to rob calcium from the bones and tissues in an effort to neutralize debilitating acid. A number of credible studies have linked caffeine to calcium loss, contributing to osteoporosis and increased bone fractures. A study printed in the January 1994 Journal of the American Medical Association found that women who drank just two cups of coffee a day increased their risk of hip fracture by 69 percent. Coffee has also been linked to cancer. When roasted, coffee beans form a potent carcinogen called benzopyrene. An average cup of coffee contains 500 micrograms of known carcinogens. A 1981 study from the Harvard School of Public Health concluded that drinking coffee was the cause of half of all pancreatic cancer cases. It also found that drinking three cups of coffee a day increased the risk of pancreatic cancer by three times. Furthermore, all disease is promoted in an acidic environment and the goal of health is to create an alkaline body.
I've been abit of a coffee critic in the past, and learnt that you really have to watch where you're getting your information, there's so much BS on both sides of the fence. What I learnt is that you can't just put coffee into one category, there's real differences between blends, origins, the roasting& processing, where the beans were grown/ how they were grown etc. For example, single origin Arabic beans that are processed using some type of cold water method will basically have no mycotoxins/carcinogens and much lower acidic levels, however budget instant coffee is usually different story. Also, if your actually worried about acidic foods and buy into the Alkaline diet( which has little scientific backing) then you should also be cutting out sugar, alcohol, fast foods, meat, grains, and dairy- they'll have move of an impact on your body than a cup of coffee...
IMO the most concerning thing could be caffeine's effect on adrenal glands/ cortisol levels.
@Itchymoku I think it's more a ritual than the caffeine effect due the body tolerance. I've to drink more than a normal dose to feel the stymulant effect.

There's definitely a euphoria to caffeine at certain levels especially after you've partially digested breakfast. I've noticed if I haven't eaten anything then I just get a headache or I feel a sort of restless feeling like I'm just masking my tiredness instead of actually aiding my natural energy boost. After I come down completely around bed time there is a sort of disinterest in things.
I'm not a big fan of david lynch after seeing some of his rather strange and disjointed movies but I respect that he doesn't compromise his work for normal people. So I read this article.
So I figured I'd try watching twin peaks, a show david lynch directed, and the first season was actually pretty decent despite it being a 90's show. The thing I liked most about the show is that it's shot in one of my favorite parts of the country near Seattle in the misty mountains. Agent cooper is a pretty straight guy but he always treats himself to some black coffee everyday. Kind of funny how these little quirks are slipped into the story to give the characters more depth.
