Hi,
I,m in the process of switching from Ninjatrader to Sierrachart.
I can't get Keltner Channels in Sierra to mimic those in NT.
There are so many possible inputs in Sierra that it's confusing.
Does anyone have any info on this ?
In NT I use :
1 tick Range Bars
Offset Multplier 4
Period 35
To recreate this in Sierra, what settings should I use for :
1.Input Data
2.Keltner Mov Avg Length
3.True Range Avg Length
4.Top Band Multiplier
5.Bottom Band Multiplier
6.Keltner Mov. Avg type
7.ATR Mov Avg Type
Also which of the many kinds of Range Bars available in Sierra is the equivalent of those used in NT ?
Any help is appreciated.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Thanks Bob for the advice. I have managed to get the Keltner to look similar in Sierra, but still not as close as I'd like.
Strangely, in Sierra to get the spacing between the offset lines to mimic those in Ninja, I have to enter different values. eg in NT : Offset multiplier 4 creates a 4 tick space between the lines, (I use range bars,1 tick)
but in Sierra I have to set the offset to 3.3 or 3.5 to to get close to a 4 tick distance.
Anyways, that's where I'm at now.
@Stillgreen , I was wondering if you figured out the settings for the Keltner Channels in Sierra? Are you trying to setup your chart like Lance Beggs? Also, are you using "Range Per Bar-Standard (in ticks)"?
Please see my attachment... is this correct, or did you figure out something different?
@Rockford, yes my chart is based on Lance Beggs and I do use Range Per Bar-Standard (in ticks).
The Settings you show are the same as mine except that for ATR Mov Av. Type I use Wilders Mov Av.
This SC set up is close enough to NT if you want to trade Beggs style-- buy wholesale , sell retail.
I did trade TF last year using this system, and it went quite well, but
I don't use the chart these days, as I mostly trade ES now, and I don't think it works well for that. I think Beggs is
trading CL mostly these days, and I did try that a while back, but personally found CL too difficult to scalp in that
way. But perhaps it requires more practice. I've had better results using the Velocity system of Okina --
see here :
(PS: The Old Tiger in the Snow is one of my favorite works of Hokusai I hope I will be able to purchase it someday. And I have it tattooed on my left shoulder).
Hello everyone,
As a personal introduction I am a little embarrassed about how to describe …
I'd be interested to hear how you do with Beggs' system.
Input Data: OHLC AVG
Kel Mov Avg Len: 35
True Range Avg Len: 35
Top Band Mul:4
Bottom Band Mul: 4
Keltner Mov Avg Type: Simple
ATR Mov Avg Type: Simple or Wilders both will work
As far as range bars go use the Range Per Bar- Standard(in ticks)
@Stillgreen , Thanks for getting back with me Stillgreen. I'm in the process of looking at Beggs system, I haven't traded with it yet.
I was just reading the first couple pages of Okina's Velocity thread. It looks quite complex, how long did it take you to learn his system? Are you trading his system on Sierra Chart? If you are, are those indicators he's using available with Sierra?
@Rockford , Okina's system was not mechanical, and relied on his experience of charts, but the Velocity was a big factor. He posted on several threads -- look at his profile to find them-- especially on this one :
Well, it's time to step into the light. I've lurked around BMT and futures.io for a couple of years now, wandering through the journals of others, sampling indicators, hearing stories of gains and losses and feeling quite at home. I came here …
You'll have to read a lot of his posts and see how he developed and altered his system.
Yes there are Okina indicators for Sierra --look thru that thread and you will find them --posted by Gomi.
No, not automated. By " not mechanical" I meant that he didn't just enter on every signal-- he used discretion to choose which signals to take and which to ignore.
