I have some questions regarding optimization.

Is it suggested that I use a thread that has already been started on the subject, even if
no one has posted on the thread for a few weeks (or longer)?

Should I start a new thread?

If I do post onto an old thread and no one replies, what is recommended as proper etiquette?

Hi Stephen,

I would prefer you reply to an existing thread if one exists that covers your topic.

If you do not get a response after 2 days, you can reply again ("bumping") to try again. Usually people don't reply if you don't provide enough information for them to help you, or if they don't understand your post.
