I am new to using EMA crossover to trade. I am wondering if it is useful to change EMA lookback period to suit market state?

I’ve started using a crossover strategy with 8 sma and 21 ema, pullback to slower ema and confirmation candle for best price and minimal risk. Of course it does not work every time, nothing does, but for me it helps to maximize profit potential while minimizing risk as shown in the attached example.

I do not, I leave it alone. I switch to tick instead of on close.

9/21/63 ema.

I use it more as a "trend" guide for set "time period" chart. I now use 3000 tick, and 10min chart. I watch price and then place my trade with the current trend.

example

Unfortunately, there was not enough "momo" to push it down future, as price retraced. I was force to close out of my position. This is the type of setup I would play.

The "third blue rectangle" would of been an amazing setup, I didn't take the trade as I hit my daily goal. Reason : three triple top wick, reject each time below 63 ema.

I do this, or at least try to do this. This is a solid strat, you want to add where price shows "strength" going long.
