I think I discovered which add-on was messing my Chrome, the Google Chrome to Phone Extension.
This is a pretty cool app. Send to Android the web page we are reading in our computer so we can continue reading it on the phone or just to check it out later, while on the move.

Pity....

I had a similar app installed from Skype. It messed up everything, and I try to avoid all apps now.....

in the URL window. Near the bottom there is an option "Enable Chrome to Mobile" -- this should do the same thing, and hopefully will not cause you any problems.

Maybe later...

Just noticed that each app generates a new Chrome process consuming this way even more memory.

Ad-Block consumes around 30Mb
Calendar 15Mb
Gmail 9Mb
TweetDeck 7Mb

Also, when I open Chrome with only 1 page, 3 process are started averaging each 40Mb.

So I get 181Mb of memory consumption only with apps and 1 page opened. Now, since I have at least 5 opened all day... hungry fella isn't it?

I know chrome can sync the tabs between browser and phone, but don't use it that much.

There are a couple of services that do something similar (readability, pocket, instapaper, kindle). Don't know if you have seen them before, they format pages to make them easy to read on portable devices like phones and tablets. I tried them all and settled on pocket. There is a chrome extension, just press the button and it saves the page to a "read it later" list. I read a lot of stuff on my tablet and have been using the heck out of this, really nice app. I settled on pocket because it supported pdf & video better than the others, has extensions for everything, converts the pages nicely and overall has a nice interface.

Yes, I used to do that for my Kindle (the book version, not the tablet) but then I got tired of converting stuff. The conversion was never perfect and sometimes there was missing text.

With tablets and their functions I believe things are much better now.
I haven't bought a tablet yet because, well, I have no use for it

But I'll try convert stuff for my android phone although I really hate reading long texts in it. Those screen sizes weren't built for that function.

No changes here. Have reinstalled Chrome. It often hangs, when I try to start it.

The hang is not reproducible. Sometimes it hangs, sometimes it does not. Maybe it is intercepted spying by one of my viurs or spyware programs. I have no confidence in Google whatsoever.

If it is not spying, it is a software bug.

Above is a screen shot of a full screen. That is what it looks like.

Have you installed Chrome on a secondary machine for reference?

Ever since I've uninstalled the apps I haven't saw this reaction again, but then again, another one has been happening recently, for example, I have Chrome on top of Multicharts and all of a sudden one MC's chart pops up on top of Chrome

So imagine reading some post on futures.io (formerly BMT) and a chart pop's up right in the middle of the screen, in the middle of futures.io (formerly BMT)'s page. If I click on it, MC is brought up to front but if I click on Chrome the chart goes again to the background.

Really odd things happening from time to time...

Yes, I have, but I rarely use it there.

Actually the reason that I use several browsers is that they pop up on different screens. My main browser is Firefox, which pops up on the main screen. If I need to go to a second website then I use Opera which always pops up on my right screen, and has a lot of websites already open. I only use Chrome when Firefox and Operat are already open or if I need my right screen for something else, as Chrome comes up on the left screen.....

Not worth enquiring, there are five good browsers available, and usually if I restart Chrome it will work.
