Thanks @Fadi - do you have right click functionality, please (as far as I can see, this is only possible on a Mac with a keyboard combo, which I don't want : this seems to be my final, deal-breaking sticking point !) ?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Hi
I have right click if I press CMD together to normal mouse click.
I also have middle button click which is very useful in NT7; and this is another reason why I prefer virtualbox to the others...
Successful people will do what unsuccessful people won't or can't do!
I have not had any issues to note. I've switched to a different Mac, but no virtualization specific issues that I can speak of, everything has run pretty smoothly for me.
While I still use Parallels routinely everyday with no issues (an am happy with it), it may also be worth looking at a hosted solution such as a co-located server running NinjaTrader. In my opinion this can offer you 'Windows in a Mac' but won't affect your local PC's resources like it would Parallels. The other advantage with this would be the latency and uptime for your trading instance.
The downsides to this are the monthly expense and requiring an internet connection to connect to the hosted server. I use both Parallels and some hosted instances and find they are both more than adequate for most of my needs.
I'm getting more impressed with virtualization performance every day!
EDIT: I also forgot to mention, right mouse click works perfectly fine! I use a regular 'PC style' external mouse and the right click 'just works'. However, on a Mac you can also CTRL + CLICK to replicate a right mouse click functionality.
If you want to go the virtualization route I would recommend getting VMware instead of Parallels. I am not sure how close they are price wise anymore. Its more stable, faster and a better product. The Parallels' innovation process was copying everything VMware had announced would be in the next release on a tighter release cycle. At least that was the case when I worked there in 08.
I am looking at some portable laptops for my trading. I am a day trader and mostly trade for 3-4 hours a day. I use Ninjatrader 7 with Rithmic Connection. I use no Indicators. I just use Chart Trader shortcuts to trade from charts.
So anyone still out there in this deserted thread advice me about a Macbook Pro with Windows 7 or 8 and NT Combo.
I am looking to buy a Retina Display Macbook Pro with i5 5th Gen (at least) and 8 GB of Ram and an SSD. How does this fare against other Windows Laptops..?
I will be using the Windows part only to trade and study charts. No other work to keep the registry clean.

I know a guy who has used Macbook's and Ninjatrader for years with VM Ware and Windows 7.....works great...just a lot more money for a lot less computer than a PC laptop.
1st: Paralles or VMWare running in your Mac OS X session. If you dont have crazy ALGOs running, it will be fine to handle.
2nd: Bootcamp ... you are booting the MacBook like a Windows Laptop, no MAC OS X is running same time ... it is like you have a Windows Laptop, only your hardware is much better.
I am running a MacPro with Bootcamp and Windows 10 ... with Bloomberg, own software, NT7 & NT8, TWS, Motivewave ... all the same time without any issues.
Only condition using Boootcamp on a modern MacBook or Mac .. you have to use Windows 10 ... no older OS is supported anymore.
In a pickle now. I have found a good deal on Pro as I am totally tight on budget (even by $50). But I have a few licensed copies of Windows 7 and 8 but no Windows 10.
VMWare or Parallels will add $70 at least to the cost. Same with Windows 10 if I want to buy a copy.
