I've tried 2 different ISP to combat my connection issues to thinkorswim. The platform runs but the best way I can describe my issue is that is "sticks" the info is then updated in such a speedy fashion it "sticks" again thus creates this loop of chunks of movement for the futures.
I've been trading for awhile and the way I trade ToS has always adequately provided me with the tools for my strategy. Before making this post I'd just like to list the things I have done as well as my ISP to resolve this lack of communication between my internet and thinkorswim.
1. Spoke with Thinkorswim over a dozen times concerning this particular issue (same answer talk to your ISP)
2. Spoke with ISP and spent over $1000 in external computer help to resolve the issue all of which tell me its a ToS server issue.
3. Replaced all coax from pole to router
4. Replaced all splitters and connections from pole to router
5. Replaced modem/router 3 times.
6. Replaced all ethernet cables.
7. Even done a few Voodoo dances...
I digress, is there anyone that can point me in the right direction or help me get on a path to solve this problem? It's painfully obvious that neither ToS nor my ISP is willing to do so. Again, I've used both options in my city neither one of them has a solution. This is my tracert below. The latency isn't bad however, the timing out is causing the platform to update properly. I'm sure I probably left something out. Or posted this in the incorrect place but after watching the /es /ym break an all time point record and having to sit on the bench I' just feel defeated.

Had a similar issue with no solution in sight. The fix was switch to a static IP address. Bad for security good for connection. Since I was able to switch back to dynamic IP with no problems. However, if you keep having to use static IP (keep changing it since it is much much easier to get hacked which did in fact happen to me unfortunately).
@WhistleThis : your tracert doesn't show any problem. The destination IP doesn't reply to pings (for security reasons I presume) so the timeouts you see are normal.
@TrendTraderBH : a static IP is not a problem. Most routers are correctly secured so unless you've done some risky ports forwarding then the machines inside your local network won't be visible from outside. You can verify this using this web site for example.
I find pingplotter ( very helpful in diagnosing connection issues. It's also a useful tool to have when trying to discuss connection issues with your provider. It's a tool that allows you to see the results of a traceroute ( query graphically. …
@WhistleThis Sorry to say but I think you will find it is a performance limitation with ToS - it simply doesn't handle high volatility futures environments well; hard to say whether it is client or server side or due to its Java implementation. I have seen users who like the program for its analysis and functionality but use a different program in parallel for trade execution. At the retail level even high volatility environments still only require minimal internet bandwidth, just a reliable connection which you should easily be able to validate with any generic pingtest/speedtest program.
Having been there done that with computer issues going to add a few more branches on the fire. Me I just gave up after I finally realized I was in the wrong arena. Computers will Hiccup... FACT OF LIFE.... Your trading plan needs to take that into account on multiple levels. OKAY so nothing you have not heard of already. Now on to TRONS
Your information moves only as fast as your slowest link. That said mine was always changing so I finally gave up all together for day trading as was too stressful for me. If I do get back into trading it will be with a longer timespan as that is what I was happily using beforehand.
BELARC ADVISOR.... Company still lets us download and use for free. Pimped as security program, but I like to think of it as doing much more as it will alert you to unknown bottlenecks that you may have in your system.
ISP: If you have COX CABLE lately IMHO THEY SUCK!!!! The cable companies make lots of claims, but .... Enough said.
With your network cables if you live near the ocean it helps to snap them in and out to get the oxide that you can't see off every once in a while... too
LASTLY as you are running WINDOWS make sure that you do not have your windows set to AUTO UPDATE!!!! MicroSoft is very intrusive and will interrupt your trading program. You too may be interrupting your trading program by running other programs (SOCIAL MEDIA) in the background. Have only your trading program running and be sure nothing in your background.
BTW: TOS configuration may also be to blame. Also your computer might just be a lemon... Lord knows my $9K custom trading system from ____________ SUCKED right from day one.
Problems. Good luck
