Hey Zelek11

what is your ping and speed now from Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test and choose destination location Chicago since that is where your trading should be routed to.

Spencer

I have DSL over a phone line now. I get about 78ms ping to Chicago. I like what I have but it's getting expensive with the phone line price increases.

I had my wife on Comcast at work use the pingtest.net website and run a test to the closest server. She got about 30ms which is what I often get to a nearby server. I had a friend try the same test using Uverse at home and she got 67ms to the same local server.

They say that the interleaving Uverse uses should only add about 10-15ms to the ping time. But in this particular example it added double that.

If I choose Comcast I'm not concerned about latency. I'm concerned about the reliability of the connection. With Uverse I think the connection is more reliable, but I don't know if the latency will be a problem for my trading style.

FWIW a few years ago I had AT&T but had frequent disconnnects and that kind of thing. My brother had Comcast and was very happy with that so I went with Comcast. It's rare that I lose service or have issues of any kind with Comcast and it's been at least 6 years since I switched. I don't have top tier service...I'm in the middle somewhere but it works great for me. I have tried the fastest and noticed no difference.

As just a side note, I'm not up on all that ping stuff and the rest of it but I have no problems whatsoever with orders....Are a few milliseconds or whatever really going to make a difference in your trading ?...I think not.

It seems like some people get to wrapped up in having the fastest, quickest service money can buy and for a retail guy such as myself it doesn't make any difference....would just be throwing money away.
