I am curently paying $30 a month for live futures data. It seems as though free futures data is slowly becoming a thing that smalltime retailers are taking advantage of.
I dont require realtime data. A 10-15 minute delay is fine in my case but the question is how to go about this?
I am with Interactive Brokers but have never used their data. I am not sure if it is free from them and if so, what the quality is like. Anyone using them for data?
If anyone is currently using free data from a different source, would you mind sharing how you are acheiving this and what your experience has been so far?

Tradestation offer free platform with free data. I have this. I also use ProRealtime with Interactive Brokers, but you'll need to trade a couple of times a day, so some pressure there. Great and fast platform though.
I have used ProRealtime in the past and it is a very good platform. Ive done some investigation and it turns out as long as I do 10 round trips a month I get the platform and all CME futures data for free. Naturally I did some more digging to find where the catch is and nothing was obvious. So I phoned them and quizzed the voice on the other end of the phone on various things like, all in round turn costs, interests charges, overnights, trade cancellations, where they get their data from...couldnt find anything out of the ordinary. The voice was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions there and then. I get to keep my IB account as well.
There is an option for delayed futures data (10 minutes) which is totally free. Im considering this option not because its free but because if Im serious about higher timeframe positions then do I really need to see that random flapping aberration on the hard right edge? I dont know the answer but Im going to try it out.
Another advantage is that I can log in and manage positions on the phone. So if for whatever reason I dont have acces to my PC I can just log in on 4g from anywhere and have access to the charts and all open positions (a big disadvantage with sierra).

ProRealtime allocate an account manager, mine was very helpful at the beginning. The platform is negotiable and so is some data, it depends on what you want and the total monthly costs (my data was free for the first 12 months). I like the way my trading rebates roll over for subsequent months.I think the biggest consideration is the cost of commissions. For the lowest RT fees I need to trade 30+ RTs per month. Money being held with Interactive Brokers UK is another bonus. Yes, I agree having back up on the smartphone is very handy (I use a separate broadband connection with this).
TradeStation offers a futures account that is virtually free. The RT fees are higher but there's no requirement to trade. I think initial $2000/ deposit is needed. It costs me a few dollars in realtime index and stock data fees per month but all my futures data including market depth is free. If you trade longer timeframe then you could program the radarscreen app in TS to trigger alerts in realtime.
Glad to help. Let me know if you need any more info.

That looks good. In fact 9 euros for COMEX (if it's full, not just minis) is excellent, well done. I trade too much so I don't have to worry about platform, data or commissions. It really is a stable and fast platform (it's as fast as Rithmic or CTS) and definately the best front end for an Interactive Brokers client. Make sure you set the data stream to 'push+'.
