Since some were having trouble seeing my pictures, I'm attempting to upload them again. I've basically got it organized into three tabs in an excel file: the Summary Sheet, Trade Ledger, and Trade Details.
There is a dashboard at the top of each sheet to help navigate the workbook easily.
The Summary Sheet has a NinjaTrader style summary table and a chart that both respond to all the data in my journal, as well as the commission schedule and tax rate I select:
The Trade Ledger is where my spreadsheet pulls the NinjaTrader data into, so it is formatted very similarly to what you see in the NinjaTrader "Trades" section. Each drop down arrow in my journal is a category by which I can filter the data:
The Trade Details sheet is the real "journal" part of the workbook. It is where I place comments, add links to online reports, and include pictures (screenshots) of the charts:
I hope these pictures will post correctly and that this inspires you to start recording your trades if you haven't already!
I've been working overtime lately so I had to settle for market replay today. Pretty bullish morning in crude, so I treated it like a range day--buying low and selling high.
5 for 5 trades at 2 contracts each for $490 profit, $448.20 after fees, and about $345.11 after taxes:
Often the first few swings can define the course for the trading day, or at least the morning hours. I stopped after two swings within the range because I saw weakness reaching the other side of the channel.
Two good trades, total time commitment: 15 minutes. Total return: $270.
For CL during this contest I am keeping it simple: trading two contracts, one with a target of five ticks and another with a target of ten ticks. The strategy moves to break-even after the first target is hit. My stop is always 10 ticks.
