While I'm not going to call you some sort of pro-optimus agent, I would like to see some executions if that is not too much to ask. Just out of curiousity of the commonality and consistency of these positive slips
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Who do you recommend for data/charting instead? TWS is terrible in my opinion. I know everyone here is big on NT but I had trouble loading historical data with the demo. I may be missing something b/c I didn't have the time to look into it further, but it made me load 1 day at a time and then failed to play back more than 1 day of data.
Edit: Don't mean to hijack this thread, anyone can feel free to pm me with their suggestions.
for my money, DTN/IQ or IQFeed is what I use... there are lots of platforms that support IQFeed ... atrader, amibroker, multicharts, ninjatrader, marketdelta, tradevec, protrader, neuroshell, and the list goes on... the key thing, wide support from multiple application vendors (charting and otherwise) which makes it attractive...
if you use Kinetic, it will only work with NT7... and you are tied to it then.. but it is month to month, so you can always cancel..
you can also look and esignal, but to me.. there is less vendor support.. but the majority of the vendors are there..
btw, needless to say... if you use NT7 as long as you dont trade via it, it is free!!... which is a good thing.. load up historical from IQFeed and you wont have any issues with charting... and just use BookTrader for your OE..
As always it depends on what you are looking for...
Charting on TWS is not usable. If you dont trade much you can use NT (for free) for charting and TWS for orders.
If you trade more, then NT or Multicharts are a good choice for charting and orders.
I trade a lot (only four instruments) and for some years now. Use 5 and 3 minutes charts. I always used IB (as it has some advantages as you dont want a USD account and you are an international client) with NT and love it. I like the filtered datafeed as it is less nervous than a good datafeed.
And yes, when I start the things in the morning I often have to reload part of the data, and if rollover there could be problems. Nothing big enough for a second datafeed if you are used to handle it.
I understand that most people prefer a second datafeed. But it really depends...
regardless of how much you trade... I would use NT7 for the charting as long as it wasnt anything complicated... please keep in mind that i use MarketDelta (and I do own multibroker licenses of NT7 and also two licenses of MC7)... that is for charting...
for Order Entry (OE)... BookTrader is good... but ButtonTrader(https://www.buttontrader.com/index.asp) is even better (costly though, but worth it, best tool if you are trading full time with IBKR).. there is also brackettrader ( Bracket Trader) which is pretty good.
I would really trust NT7 or MC7 to work 100% with IBKR... for that, I would only trust ButtonTrader... the developer is only dedicated to IBKR and nothing else, and he catches bugs even before IBKR developers ever do.. and he is one of the most knowledgeable resources about IBKR's API...
then again, if you are not scalping.. or trading very short term intraday... TWS is just fine for any swing position entries.. so why look at anything else.. (depending on your trading style of course)..
