hi

Any cattle traders here? The spread looks like for a nice trade. Long feeder and short live. Opinions? Attached is the chart. Feeder cattle got crushed on the 19th when feeder cattle gapped down and live gapped up. Stupid NT continuum connection only has 1 year worth of data so I can't see and analyze the historical spread. But as for 2015... current is the lowest level for the spread.

The spread indeed is at its lowest point for almost two years, but has been significantly lower before. The seasonals do not show a clear trend for the next couple of weeks (G6-F6).

COT data for live cattle looks more bullish than for feeders.

The spread often works well when corn prices come down.

I trade a lot of meats, but do not intend to buy this spread.

Which contracts (months) are you interested in ?

Best regards, Myrrdin

The Live cattle feeder cattle spread, is dynamic in that as Live cattle gains in price with low corn price then feeder cattle can exponentially gain on live cattle. for this reason it works in reverse when going down. Although the relative value of feeder cattle is relativity low on a historical valuation level vs live cattle. I would be weary of going long gf vs le at this point
