I am an experienced programmer looking to see if anyone has advice on which language/platform they would start a TPO based indicator/strategy in.
From my research, I have found the availability to program in C++, Java, or Python. I am fluent in all of them, but they come with their own ups and downs.
Python (InteractiveBroker API) - Python the fastest to develop with / get a prototype up and running, but from what I've heard on Sierra Charts Forums from the admins, Interactive brokers is not a reliable broker.
- Python would also allow for easier backtesting of strategies.
C++ (Sierra Charts) - Their API has the most features.
- C++ has Longer development times
- Backtesting with Sierra Charts is a pain.
Java (MotiveWave) - Has a great SDK
- Tools are a bit pricey.
If anyone has experience developing for any of these languages or platforms and has some advice on which direction they would go I would appreciate it.
