I have questions about multicharts and want to talk to people who use it. Can you guys comment?
- I am on Zen Fire does mc support historical data? how much?
- Does it support continuous contracts?
- How is the backtesting platform compared with ninja? I know it's easy language vs. c# but I assume I can convert my code but want to get a feel for the backtesting engine itself.
- Does the backtest engine support tick data?
And my final question may be really stupid so I am sorry but can you actually place orders via multicharts or is a charting platform only? i mean does it have a dom.

Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
It doesn't do its own continuous contracts as far as I know, but if your data feed has them you can use them. So when I use it with eSignal, I can pull up ES #F, and when I use the tradestation feed, I could use @ES
I think multicharts, being compatible with TS with improvements, is a superior backtesting engine. On ninja it's all end-of-bar only, but on MC you can backtest with whatever tick data you have. See attached screenshot.
You can autotrade through IB, Zenfire, and maybe others. But there are no manual trades. I believe MC will eventually add order entry stuff, but it's not there now.
If you are looking to set up the correct platform to trade on Multicharts, try Optimus Futures. Here's my analysis of all the brokers.
The problems with other brokers is that they get so big that they can't manage their customer, case in point, Tradestation. I was with them for over 2 years, I got fed up with their customer services (Extremely unresponsive and outright rude at time). Anyway, I am currently running 3 strategies using Multicharts.
To date, here's my problems using Multicharts with others brokers.
Interactive Brokers - Disconnected every night and need resetting. Sometime rejects order for unknown reasons. Need constant monitoring and adjusting.
MB Trading - Crash every trades. Cause much headaches and money. If you're using Multicharts, stay away from MB Trading.
Open E Cry - Data Feed is often slow (undetectable) and Multicharts kicks different execution price because of latency issues.
Optimus - Have not found any problems yet, has been solid for over 3 weeks now. Very low latency, run 24/7. A true 'Set it and Forget it' automation process.
This is not a sale pitch, this is more like an expression of my personal experience.
Backtesting features / performance is worth the price of MC alone. Very robust and accurate, as someone else mentioned, you can even backtest down to the tick level if necessary.
Can't comment on any of your other questions as I don't use Zenfire or futures.
