I used NT7 for multiple charting. The feature of "Global Cross Hair" is very good for me to see on the bar actions on multiple charts.
However, whenever I move the cursor to other windows, I found the Cross Hair is very easy to move. Is there any good ways that I can fix my Global Cross Hair on certain position on the charts (like the most recently updated bar)? So that I can focus on using the DOM window and have the charts do the dynamic displaying. I sent this question to NT support but they don't know the answer. I wonder if anyone here has a good solution.
Thank you very much.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
If I understand correctly, you want the global crosshair to only be active if your mouse is hovering over the current bar?
I think it might be possible to do this, if you can toggle the crosshair programmatically. In such a case you could simply add an indicator to your chart which would toggle it on/off based on the x,y of your mouse and corresponding to currentbar.
Hopefully someone knows and will respond. I no longer use NT so not much help sorry
Actually not exactly what I mean. I mean: I am using the chart for analyzing for entry or exit, when I have my mouse hovering over on any linked the chart, the global cross hair is moving accordingly, nicely. I can see the clear alignment of the price bar with indicators, MACD, stochastics data point. I can tell myself if it is having Stochastics hooking down in both higher time frame and lower time frame, at this very bar the mouse point to.
The annoyance with NT7 is: when I am satisfied with the position of the Global cross hair and want to do something else, like go to other window or even only adjusting the current chart window size, the mouse move and the global cross hair position move undesirably.
On the other hand, I do believe your suggestion point to the right direction to solve the problem: keep original NT7 Global cross hair function; make an indicator to toggle the Global cross hair on/off, by a hot key or left click of mouse (it is not totally off, just make the cross hair display unresponsive to the mouse position), the global cross hair is there, but mouse can be anywhere else; the global cross hair function is thus mostly controlled by a click of the mouse.
I guess what I said is quite similar to what your said. I am not a programmer and sometimes do find some minor miscommunications with the computer guys I meet.
Again, many thanks!
BTW, here is the answer from NT support team showing their view. I guess it might be good for other NT users here know the situation. "Currently the ability to lock the crosshari to a specific time or price on a chart is not available, though this feature has been requested as a possible enhancement and we are currently considering, how and if it can be implemented into NinjaTrader going forward.
What you can do in the present is left-click first in the SuperDOM. This will make it the active window so that the cross-hair does not move while you are using other windows, but anytime your cursor is moving across a chart it would move across all enabled charts with the Global cross hair." (you can see this is not helping, sometime when you "accidentally" move over the chart, the global cross hair move dramatically.)
What NT needs for the global crosshairs is the ability to toggle off the repositioning.
Like if you have a 60 min and a 5min chart. Using global Crosshairs, if you have your mouse on the 60 min chart, anywhere you move your crosshairs on the 60 min, the 5 min chart will be scrolled to the corresponding location from the bigger chart.
It would be nice if they added another crosshair type, that will put crosshairs on all your charts, but NOT MOVE or scroll the chart of the smaller timeframe chart.
what i dont like about the cross hairs in general is that if you have a buncha charts and you move your mouse across them quickly the cross hairs stay on the charts until price moves.. so if nothing is moving or your doing after hours work your charts get all sloppy with cross hairs all over them.
