Can future time-related events or functions be forward plotted on NT charts?
Can future time related events or functions be forward plotted on NT charts (extending the time axis into future)? How? For example, how to plot and show calendar events, Holidays, as vertical lines for the next year and be able to scrole into future to see upcoming events?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Hopefully you'll get a more complete answer from someone else. But the short answer is yes, and I believe you simply use a negative index value to forward project (ie -26 for 26 bars in future). This feature was added to NT7 which was after I stopped using NT, so I am not 100% positive, but feel pretty good.
Seems to make sense. I can see that would be based on a data series per your example plotting a vertical line 26 bars ahead. That would be the case for 26 minutes, hours, days, or 26 5-minutes bars. However, how would that be possible for a time event, i.e. 10:30 CL inventory report on Wednesdays. If the period on a chart is changed from 30 minutes to 5 minutes then the -26 30-minutes will be translated into -26 5-minutes for plotting. Unless, the data series is first plotted based on future times in seconds or minutes. The question then is how do you do that, plotting a certain future time-event instead of the number of bars, i.e. -26.
Someone that currently uses NT will have to reply. I can only speculate what NT does, based on what Sierra Chart and MultiCharts do. If the x-axis can be extrapolated (ie: time based bars) then it will be accurate. If it is a volume, range, tick or other non-time based bar then obviously there is no way to know the future time an event will occur in relation to the number of bars spanned. In this case, the applications just use 1 bar per, based on my experience.
Perhaps this is something to add into the NTv8 wish list thread. Also might ask NT directly. Just a couple of quick thoughts. Probably could also write code to read a file, calculate the time difference, divide by current timeframe & truncate to find the number of forward bars.
Actually i've spend the last couple of days on plotting in the future
and can tell you it's perfectly possible.
I will explain everything in a seperate thread.
You can plot in the future with custom plotting, see the example from Ninja
customplotsample. The solution i'm working on now is way more
simple. I need to work it further out before explaining.
In the attached picture you can see a plot of mercury declination from an planetary
indicator i just made plotted into the future. Even the dates from the crosshair work
on the x-axis with plotting in the future. This is done with the simple method.
Thanks @Zondor. The "Displacement" will shift the value of an indicator from N bars ago to the current bar location. I am really looking for being able to plot a future time-related event on extended x-axis.
