I think this is important for all fellow traders who are looking at/trading Gold futures with Ninja 7.
This (gold ) bug may not be infesting every Ninja 7, but you better check your charts. I had some bad signals until I realized that something wasn't right... I was running Ninja 7.0.1000.34 until now
Creating a new chart for GCZ17, the gold contract with the highest volume right now, you expect to see data for GCZ17, right? If your Ninja is affected by this phenomenon you will receive data from the GCV17 contract and any incoming real time data will then be for the GCZ17 contract. Check here for a detailed description of the problem and a solution from the NinjaTrader support forum. GC chart is not correct - [AUTOLINK]NinjaTrader[/AUTOLINK] Support Forum
This is not a bug. It is just a false contract preselected under instrument settings.
Before you trade any futures contract, it is your responsibility
-> to check which contract you wish to trade
-> to check whether rollover dates and rollover offsets are set as needed
NinjaTrader has most of the instrument data preset correctly, but you may not rely on every single contract month and rollover offset. Also you may wish to use different rollover dates than preselected.
Please open every instrument you wish to trade under instrument settings and make sure that the instrument master data is set as needed.
Thank you for reminding me of this. Last time I checked this, the rollover date to the December contract for GC was properly set to the end of July (27th or 28th, I don't remember the exact date). So, it is not as simple as that.
But everybody should keep in mind that every time you connect to your live data feed the contract months with the associated rollover dates are automatically downloaded from the NinjaTrader servers (source: Ninja Help files). So a change without notice could happen anytime.
If such a 'downloaded' change caused this what happened to my charts last Wednesday (August 2nd) - I really don't know. All of a sudden (Ninja was running RT for more than 1 hour already), the GC-chart & prices displayed were changed, my analysis tools were showing something different and my entry signal disappeared (of course). I had to flatten my trade immediately because I did not know what was going on. Only the GC-charts were affected, they switched back from December to October I realized lateron - without changing the caption at the top of the chart.
I am not quite sure if a renewed check of the proper rollover dates could have prevented this scenario. At least I did not lose any money - I did not make some, but this could have happened any other way as well.
