I have been an avid Blackberry user for the last 2 years and now considering switching to the Droid. I would like to get some feedback from those that were BB users and changed over to the Droid. Such as apps, more or less and are they better? I know the Droid has a faster processor which is great, but kills the battery life faster. How about ease of use? And more importantly, pros & cons? Would you recommend changing to the Droid or would you suggest staying with the BB?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Hey T2W,
I have not used a BB in years but my memory of it was not good. I guess because I was always a smartphone person before it became mainstream. I need a big touchscreen. I have both Droid X and iphone (mainly for the apps). And the Droid X is my main phone you can customize anything. OS is good. Media functions are plenty. I guess it all comes down to what functionality your looking to get out of your phones. Today I believe most phones are universal in features. Differences might come down to OS preference (Mac/PC). Since I'm a heavy google, gmail...etc person. Droid made sense to me. Check some cnet or youtube reviews for more details. Quick note this is my second Droid X as the 1st froze the same day (replaced).
That is really a bold statement you make here. How does everybody know that Droid kicks BB? From my research the BB is better for business such as multiple email and the Droid is much better for web browsing and has more apps.
IMO, change is good. Implying that people are lazy is really a ignorant statement. I say do your homework by getting feedback, find reviews and compare the two and find out which one fits your needs better.
Probably you are right. It just return to your preference. My brother got a BB. The internet is locked to only provider give BB service. You can connect to local wifi only for browsing. There is a way to make it work for everything else but it require some setup to do. I just don't see anyway how BB is better for business. Android could also handle multiple email easily. The quirk about Android though is it's good for IT savy.
I'm not far from the truth in my opinion. If you think change is good, does other people think that too? most of them will say yes, but how many of us keep changing our lifestyle / daily routine? I heard one from psychologist before saying people over age 30 formed their living style that's hard to be changed. I don't know how much truth in it, but so far, i found it's pretty spot on.
IMO people who hate change are complacent with their current lifestyle, and will never prosper. I always tell me girls that the difference between successful people and those who aren't is successful people are willing to take risk, do the things that others are not willing to do and have perseverance.
I feel really bad for sabotaging this thread. I promise this is my last post in this thread.
Firstly, you are completely right in that and I'm with you. But you will be surprised when you know just soo much people have very strong resistance to change. You might not be one of them, but it's just unfair to assume everybody think just like you do.
I'm working as software system designer. When comes to a change in organizational system, I remember how much hatred there is to it. Several reasons what causing it are:
1. "Need to learn new stuff" - some people like learning, most people don't. Most tend to do what they know and rarely explore to new stuff.
2. "New believe" - When people has a belief, changing that belief is close to impossible. Unless someone prove them that their believe is completely wrong. I believe it's fair to assume that people will question if new system is better than old system. In some cases, the old system will make it easier for other people and not for them. When this happens, strong resistance tend to occur.
3. "Technology paranoia" - It's funny until thesedays, how there are some people who basically has some kind of paranoid towards computer. Some of them still think, they could accidentally blow up the computer just by presssing a combination of key and mouse.
Again, I don't think I could change your belief with this petty arguments. Since, my experience is based on my environment. So, statistically speaking, it's not enough sample available to deduce the correct hypothesis. Maybe in other places, people tends to accept changes easier, but definitely not in places that I'm living in.
Kind Regards,
Felix
P.S: Open minded people always welcome to new change. They make mistake oftenly, but they learn more than other people. That's why open-minded ness is one characteristic of rich.
Edit: Just want to add "New believe" and "Need to learn new stuff" is dependent each other. In order to believe new system is better than old system, you have to learn new system. But some people are too lazy to learn new things. That's why they keep believing new system is no better than old system.
Change for the sake of change is plain silly. I've looked at the new offerings and there is no killer app imo.
I'm a longtime BB user (since I beta tested the pager style unit in 1997), I'm tech literate, and I personally see no reason to change.
My BB does everything I need, and I extract a lot out it. I've traveled extensively and the phone is great and email always rock solid. Same can't be said for alot of phones.
And I'm a text heavy user, so the screen keyboard that most droid hardware use just won't cut it for me.
So am I a dinosaur for not having a phone that has an 8 MP camera (but with a 4mm lenses... lol) and the latest games? Maybe.
Would I love a faster processor and better screen. Sure. But I don't NEED an entertainment product.
What I really NEED is what I already have.
Thanks for the feedback. The only reason I have considered changing to the Droid is my battery is dying on my BB and it is up for renewal. I would never just change to keep up with the Jone's.....lol. And what they want for a replacement battery I might as well get a new smart phone.
I am stretching it to the limits on when I get a new phone because I'm too cheap. Until the time comes that it becomes too much of a burden then I will just replace it.
